How anyone can continue to think this team is a contender is beyond me

Yeah, I know we've heard the 'Well, it's just January and nothing is decided in January', and the same in Feb, and now it's the middle of March.

Anybody out there that STILL believes at this point?  If so, what can you possibly be basing this belief on.  Pure faith, I guess, because nothing on the court would indicate any possibility of post-season success, and it's basically been that way this entire calender year.

I expect the usual 'you're not a true fan' chorus to chime in.   With Sheed and KG on the books for 2 more years, and Pierce for one more year, it's going to be brutal to watch this bunch for at least the next year.  Two years from now we can at least hope Danny can trade our huge expirings.  Next year will be utterly hopeless.

Should have jumpstarted the rebuild by trading Ray, and that's not because of Ray's play, but rather because his was the expiring contract.  Oh well, that ship sailed and it was a lost opportunity.

Mostly I'm wondering if there are still any believers out there.  That would truly be mind-bending to me.

This team still has a very solid chance of getting into the second round of the playoffs and giving their opponent a decent 5 or 6 games, mostly because the East is a really weak conference.

Anything beyond that is pretty much out of the question barring some kind of miracle turnaround.

last year we had the excuse of no KG and no powe to fall back on...can't do that this year

Last year the Celtics didn't have KG for half the year and they finished with 62 wins.  They then battled their hearts out in the playoffs without their best player and came one game short of reaching the ECF, primarily because they simply ran out of gas and had a really crappy bench.

This year, they have all of their starters for the majority of the season and have an upgraded bench, yet they're gonna finish with 50ish wins and are likely headed for a convincing defeat in the second round.

This year's Celtics is NOTHING like last year's team.

I think we have more excuses this year.....but excuses don't justify anything. They just need to play well.....I won't give up on this team untill they are out of the playoffs (yea, even after watching tonight's game...pls don't crucify me for this.)

We didn't have KG, Paul, Big Baby for many games. And who is to say they can't replicate last year's playoffs performance. You said they ran out of gas in the playoffs....maybe, they are trying to not commit that mistake this year 'coz of all the injuries we have had. You are right, this team is nothing like last year's team. It is more talented. They just need to show it on the court.

I'm not trying to defend the teams play tonight. I just don't want to and can't give up on them yet.

They are not a contender right now but the playoffs didn't start tonight. I still believe that they have the talent to be a contender come playoff time if they get it together. If they don't then they probably will be a second round exit.
