Has Tony Allen retired, along with Shelden Williams? I thought Tony and Nate played well together against Charlotte, brought some good energy. I like Tony's toughness, think he can bring some good physical energy off the bench and also help get Ray a bit more rest after logging heavy minutes all season for no good reason. Especially now since Quisy is back and can spell Pierce as much as needed.

Also, Shelden showed some real good physical activity and toughness on the boards the last time he was sighted. He might have been a decent option ( at least worth a shot) against Bogut last night while he was throwing down 25 and 17 on perk. Maybe Shelden is slightly quicker than Perk and may have at least given Bogut a different look to deal with.

Anyway, I havent' seen them lately, have they retired?

I've been really hard on Tony in the past but he's played really well for us this year.  Unfortunately it appears he's the odd man out with Finley's arrival.  Doc loves his vets!

I'm not really thrilled to see Finley show up and take all of Tony Allen's minutes.

I think Doc wants to see what Finley has to offer before deciding on which player to use.

While I have never been a fan of Allen, I must admit he was playing pretty well lately. I think the problem is that he and Daniels both play a very simular type of game. Neither has an outside shot. Both will score by cutting and slashing to the hole. Granted it was a very small showing, but if Finley can continue to shot outside like he did yesterday, it brings another dimention which opens the floor up a bit more. I guess my point is it's hard to play Allen and Daniels at the same time, so a choice was made.

I see what you're saying, at the same time it was pretty amazing to watch the two of them shut down the opposing wings on the other team.  I noticed when they were playing together one of the other nights that they destroyed the other team's ability to penetrate the paint with dribbling.

What we lose from neither of them having a great outside shot we gain in the toughness they combine for on D I think.

It would be a shame if Finley just took TA's minutes for no real reason. It's not like TA should be losing PT since he has been playing fairly well. Usually a newcomer should have to earn minutes not just have them handed to him. Plus I like TA's energy on defense and he has a knack for grabbing those hustle offensive rebounds

Yeah, stinks that TA lost his minutes to Finley.  I think TA has played better than Daniels so far.

Don't we already know what Finley has to offer us?

1. He's been in the league for 15 years or whatever.
2. He can shoot some threes but is better in the mid range game
3. He can handle the ball ok
4. When he is in, it would be best to get him some screens to role off, like Ray.
5. He's not a stopper on D at this point, or if ever but he'll play hard.
6. He's probably good for a hard going 15-20 minutes a night

What else do we need to know? I know this and I havent' even followed Finley's career that much other than watching a few games he's played for the Spurs.

7. You play TAllen and Marquis behind Ray and Paul and when one of them doesn't have it going or if you think he can add scroing.

End of discussion, it's not complicated.

I do understand the concern of TA and Quisy not having an outside shot, that is legit. So if you want the benefit of of the tough D TA and Quisy bring on the wings ( which I really like), then play the right players along side them to balance it. in that lineup.

Rasheed / KG / Quisy / TA and Nate

Put Rasheed on the box and KG in the mid range, and mix it up with Rasheed on the perimter.

To be fair to Doc, isn't Tony hurt?

I thought he was still nursing that hip from the bobcats game that he missed last game for.

If that's not the case, then him losing all his minutes to Finley is ridiculous. Finley played alright last night in limited minutes, but at 37 he's no where near the defender off the bench that TA is. (and I'm no TA fan, but he's been pretty good the last two months)

Agree he was just injured. I doubt that's unrelated to his minutes.

Agreed re TA as a defender, but doesn't Doc also just thave along histroy of burying guys after they've played well?

He did it with House in 2008.
He often does it within a game. A guy will light it up in the first half, play out of his mind. That may get him no minutes in the second half and a "DNP, coach's decision for the next few games as well.

Shelden was retired for 2-3 mths, etc...

The rotation should already be decided before Finley even arrived.

TA and Quisy back up Paul and Ray. Finely can be used when one of them isn't getting it done, or maybe you need shooting.

That's all, that's it. Don't need lab experiments and all kinds of ultra creative concepts and lineups. It's not rocket science.

I thought TA said he had a bump but that he was fine. I don't think he's injured, is he?
