What should the Hornets do with D. Collison?

I think they wait til the end of the season, hope his production stays this high and then attempt to trade him with Peja's expiring to get some talent.  If they want to get an all-star player they are in pretty good shape to do so with Collison, Wright, Thornton and Peja's expring.

Darren Collison and Peja Stojakovic could fit the need of numerous teams who have problems shooting from the perimeter; it's a shame that right now the Hornets don't have a very feasible shot of making the playoffs this season because if they were in the Eastern Conference I'm sure that they could give teams like say the Milwaukee Bucks or the Charlotte Bobcats a run for their money as far as wins are concerned. The NBA seems to have an excess of younger athletic teams that are only a few trades away from being able to pose a legitimate threat in the playoffs; if you'll remember Allen Iverson started this season coming off the bench for the Grizz, and while that may have not worked out the Grizzlies right now still have a better record than the bottom two seeds in the Eastern Conference. Imagine how many more wins they'd have if they got to play the NJ Nets more than once in a full moon (no disrespect to the Nets).

Why should they trade their franchise player for a rookie point guard? A player who will only turn 25 later this season. A player who finished second in the MVP vote two years ago and fifth last season. A player who is widely regarded as the best point guard in all of basketball. Why would New Orleans trade such a magnificent talent? For a good rookie point guard? C'mon.

That's like trading LeBron James because you just drafted Richard Jefferson.

When you get a player as gifted as Chris Paul you treasure him. You build your franchise around him. You do not under any circumstances trade him without getting a top five talent of similar or younger age back in return.

Yes u hit it on the nail when you say(imo)if they could get a top five(big&wing)young player(s),i could see it.Every good team needs at least a combination(3)bigs&wings that are good to great.Your pg doesn't necessary need to be great to win but good enough to distribute and shoot when needed and Collison seems to fit that role so far.
When you look at the Hornets needs,they never replaced Tyson Chandler with the caliber of player he was turning into.So a new C is probably a good start.Then i would start thinking about replacing Peja soon.He is inconsistent with his time on the court with injuries,etc.a sign of a aging player.This team was close to competing for a NBA championship only a few seasons ago,a tweak here,a tweak there might be what they need.

This is a good problem for New Orleans to have - two great point guards. When Paul returns I wonder if both guys will play simultaneously or something. I've got Collison on my fantasy team so naturally I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't go back to the bench.

I would keep Collison and trade Chris Paul for some beef up front, which is what the Hornets sorely need.

Any position two through four -- not optimistic about the level of talent that will available in trades following the summer of 2010 though. The trade market looks unfriendly for the Hornets.

I would be willing to trade Okafor too but I think they'd waste their assets looking for an upgrade at center through this type of trade. Not a large enough improvement for the quality of assets you'd be sending out. A problem to be dealt with at a later date.
