Just a thought that I had today, while looking at Rondo's statistical progression this season. It's not a huge improvement but his stats are really up by a good margin when you think about it, and of course his impact on the game and on his team has never been stronger, although it doesn't necessarily translate into stats.

Here are Rondo's stats from last year :

Per game : 33 minutes, 50%FG, 64%FT, 12 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals,

His stats from this season :

Per game : 37 minutes (!), 14 points, 52%FG, 60%FT, 10 assists, 4 rebounds, 2,5 steals.

In addition, so far, Rondo ranks 7th in double doubles (he has 30), first in steals, 4th in assists.

Thinking about the MIP candidates, and although I've followed the season closely, I just don't know which players are in the race. I think you could think of David Lee and Durant but they have only improved their scoring margin (by an average of 4 points) so I don't know if they should be favorites.

Also, do you think Rondo's performance in the playoffs last year is an asset for him to be named MIP this season or, on the contrary, a drawback since it could be considered that he didn't improve much from last year (which is kind of silly because he surprised everybody in the playoffs).

I don't give much credit to individual awards but I think Rondo really deserves this award and it would be cool to see him get some recognition, especially when his impact has really taken a big leap, and doesn't really translate into stats. I think that Rondo is the favorite to be the MIP if finishes the season with his current stats (the most important being his assists at an average of 10 per game).

Kevin Durant?

Russell Westbrook?

Honestly, what are the criteria for MIP? It seems way too subjective.

Some candidates: Josh Smith, Al Horford, Gerald Wallace, Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, Raymond Felton, Shawn Marion, Brendan Haywood, Kenyon Martin, Carl Landry, Jarrett Jack, Eric Gordon, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Martell Webster, Luol Deng, David Lee, Wilson Chandler, Jermaine O'Neal, Kevin Love, Brook Lopez, Chris Bosh, Ben Wallace, Ryan Anderson, Nazr Mohammed, Andrea Bargnani.

I think Joakim Noah's improved impact is mostly down to his coach giving him more minutes. Channing Frye will get some recognition too but again I think that is mostly down to minutes.

I thought Rondo had a better case for MIP last season. That is when I felt most of his improvement came.

I think there are several more deserving candidates than Rondo this season.

By the way, remind me, who was the MIP last season?

Why didn't Rondo get it? Anyone remember where he finished in the voting?

Westbrook has come a long way in one year.  Lee too.

Zach Randolph has put up monster numbers this year and really made a difference for the Grizz. He always had the talent, but he is utilizing it now, and he has cleaned up his off-court issues. He would be my canidate just for those reasons.

Zach has been playing great and has kept his nose clean, but I don't think he has really improved this year.  He's always been good but this year he is finally on a team that is playing to its potential.

Here are some names different game announcers have thrown out there during the course of the season with Joakim Noah being brought up the most before he went down.Lately, ive heard Al Horford,Russell Westbrook & Josh Smith being thrown out there. It doesn't mean that their picks mean much but people do listen to them more often than not.

I suppose, i mean hasn't Chad Pennington won comeback player of the year like 3 times? I like Channing Frye and Danilo Gallinari. Chris Douglas Roberts would win if the nets were even a below average team.

  • Rondo = Good
Gerald Wallace should win it, in my opinion.

I've also seen Aaron Brooks listed as one of the top contenders for the award pretty much all season.  Don't count out Joakim Noah, either.
