Oh well, that leaves Melo as the only other superstar for 2012 free agents.

He will have enough people in his ear telling him he can make more money if he hits the open market. This is just him saying the right things in the middle of a playoff season for the team he is playing for right now.

Im not crossing him off just yet.

He would be an idiot not to sign an extension this summer, unless he absolutely hates OKC.  With the CBA ending after next season, if he were to wait until 2011 or 2012 to sign his first big contract, he could be giving up 10's of millions of dollars that he would never get back.  No one knows what the new CBA is going to look like, but it seems to be a very strong possibility that max contracts are going to be shorter, and smaller under the new deal.

It is not a coincidence that Lebron and company arranged their last contracts to end this year.  They knew change (to the detriment of the players wallets) was coming, and were planning for it.  I am sure Durant (and his agent) are thinking the same way.

Kevin Durant was never going to leave Oklahoma. He is playing on too talented a team to leave + is too happy living there and being around his teammates.

Carmelo Anthony will be an interesting player to monitor. It's unclear which way his medium term future will go. How quickly Billups ages and how Denver reacts to that will play a large role in deciding whether Melo considers leaving Denver or not.

but he can't. that's why it's called a "max offer"

nothing in that article indicates OCK is interested to signing him to a max extension right now.

I want a raise at work too, but so far the company hasen't responded. That's the situation KD is in right now.

Personally, i think the OCK GM should run down to the locker room and sign him up right now, but until he does, KD is still a pending FA in 2012.

I'm fairly certain its in the team's pipepline.  Probably this summer.  Presti would be nuts not to offer him the 5 years/$80 million.  My guess is the offer is coming and they're probably waiting to the offseason.

I am pretty sure they can't do that until the offseason anyways.  On a rookie scale contract, they have a window to negotiate during the summer after their third season.  Then if they don't get anything done then, the player will become a RFA the next summer.  And then a UFA the next summer.  They can't negotiate during this season.

I gotta admit, the hope that the C's could land Kevin Durant is very slim anyway. Superstars like that don't leave their current teams unless something irrevocably bad is going on.

Off the top of my head Shaq is the only player that comes to mind that hopped teams very early in his career.

If OKC has the finances to resign him, what reasons exist for him not to resign?  they can offer him a max contract and a higher max since they have his Bird rights.  so he makes more money staying there.  factor in the new CBA he'd want to resign now, as opposed to 2011.

The only reason why they wouldn't resign him is that they can't afford a max contract, which is doubtful or that OKC wants to wait for the new CBA to get him at a reduced rate (which may only stop them from resigning him before 2011).

Thunder also have a better future with Westbrook, Green, Collison and Harden.  Add in a couple more 10-20 1st round picks and that is far, far better than Rondo, Perkins, and some late first and second rounders.  Better money, better team.  So what does Boston have to offer?

Hate to rain on parades but the KD train left the station when the ping pong ball gave us #5.  Time to move on.  No team is going to willingly let go of this next decades top scorer.  Even if snow was to fall in hell, why would he sign here?  Have you folks been outside since October???

If he does sign an extension OKC becomes a lot more attractive to Lebron, Bosh, Wade, etc. this summer.  You put one of those guys with KD, Westbrook, Harden, and Green and the NBA had better get out of the way.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Am I the only one here who can't stand Melo?

If Durant wants to do this and OKC does do this, and they would be crazy not to, and the first thing they are going to want to do is add a defensive minded center to anchor the middle for this team for years to come

How's Perkins and Davis for Collison and their two number one picks sound

Good to me, hopefully good to OKC

Yeah I know, I'm dreaming
