He has little offense outside of putbacks or open dunks but his will to get every rebound is welcome.

He's a hustler and does what is asked of him when needed.

I have been a big proponent of Big Baby playing over Williams but with Big Baby's recent play (getting blocked a lot and taking fall aways) I am starting to turn.

Any Shelden supporter want to make a good argument why I should come all the way over to the dark side?

I will say he should a little bit better hands in last nights game. He even caught a pass. To be honest I like his hustle and the fact that he hits the boards. On a team that is last in rebounding I don't understand why they don't give him a some PT. Truth be told, if Wallace wasn't making so much, I think he'd be sitting.

After the way Shelden played at the beginning of the season, I thought he had earned himself a spot in the rotation.  At the very least, I expected Baby and Shelden to share minutes as the 4th big.  But as soon as Baby returned from his injury, Shelden quickly became the forgotten man.  So my thinking at the time was that the team's braintrust had decided to go with Shelden for the long term, and they were giving minutes to Baby to showcase him for a trade.  This thought was also partly due to the boneheaded nature of Davis' injury.  But when the trade deadline came and went, it slowly dawned on me that they preferred Davis in the lineup over Williams.  I think this is a big mistake.  There are many games when Shelden's rebounding ability is sorely missed.  And Shelden has no problem elevating enough to get his shot off in the paint.  I like Davis' game, and in certain matchups he might be the better option than Williams.  But at a minimum, I think Shelden and Baby should be sharing the minutes, much in the way that Powe and Baby shared minutes the last couple of years.

This was my thinking too. I thought he played well and earned some time over the knuckle head. I don't see why when it's obvious that baby isn't "on" one night we don't give Shelden a go.

I won't join the discussion of playing time that's going on because there are so many factors involved as to why one night he might be more useful than others.

However, I will say that the entire team could learn a thing or two from him about how to read a shot when it goes up so that you can get in proper position for the rebound.  He's the best on the team at that.  This is not to mention the sheer effort he gives dispite not being near the others in terms of physical talent.

I Agree. That's how they got him to work knowing Powe would get his minutes unless he gave 100%. Baby still thinks he's more than a role player. He's not nor will he ever be. Shelden already knows this so he goes hard every minute.

This tread needs to be locked! Where is the moderator!

If word gets out that Williams can play, how in the world can we resign him for vet min?!?

Young, athletic PF with good fundamentals and work ethics - these guys don't grow on trees. Certainly not for vet minimum.

Dude can play defense and rebound. Celtics brass have every confidence he will fully get all the defensive schemes down. And his 15' jumper can become automatic.

1) Doc needs to continue to bury him until Danny resigns him!
2) Nate will just have to make due with Sheed and BBD "protecting" him on D.

This thread needs to be John Locked!  >:(

  • You say when......
Sheldon didn't "get better hands" he got better minutes, his game is the same, and he will get better, with more minutes. BBD hasn't shown much development or desire, but he will step it up if Sheldon gets more minutes, he already has pretty close to as many rebounds per minute..! BBD's points won't compare because when you don't play much, people don't pass to you much, when you finally get in. Sheldon should get ALL of Scal's minutes, and then play BBD and Sheldon as a VS method nightly, see who gets it done...! Let the game show you where to go...!

I think Sheldon has been playing great. But I would not compare him to BBD, nor give him BBD minutes. Sheldon is new to the team, has a ways to go and will get his groove on before long. He looked really real the other night.

He should get ALL of scal's minutes....why does doc play this guy instead of sheldon.....quite a mystery...! Doc should make it clear that sheldon and BBD have to battle on the floor for their minutes, then maybe BBD will take getting in shape seriously, because he hasn't yet..! Fat and stupid is no way to go through life..! Leon could dunk on anyone, and he did as he helped us beat the Lakers for our title, Sheldon can dunk as well, BBD can only out dunk those guys in the doughnut shop...! Or maybe with a BBall shaped Mcnugget..!
