The Celtics are one of the teams Tony Battie would be interested in signing with if he is bought out, according to WEEI.com

I'd welcome Batman back to Boston.

Then we just need Eric Williams, Antoine, Walter McCarty.

The good old days.  :D

Bringing back those three might at least get the team out of its lethargy, huh?

The way this team is playing, Mark Blount would be the ideal addition; he reflects the team attitude perfectly.

But yes, I've always liked Battie, and would be glad to see him come back.

Battie saved Pierce's life, literally. So yes, I want him back.

Exactly!! What P2 said. The man was our center when we made our run deep into the playoffs back in 2002. Pretty reliable, too.

Heck yeah bring Tony Battie back. He could be our PJ Brown?

He's a Big that plays down low...blocks shots..rebounds..he has a jumper, but we certainly wouldn't have to worry about him straying out to the three point line, being that his "J" was maybe 8-10 ft range if I remember correctly.

Good point. I like Battie, also.

And yeah, Blount would fit right in with the ambivalence of this team.

PJ Brown was the second best big man on a 50 win team the season before he joined the Celtics.

Tony Battie was a liability for Orlando as their fourth big in the rotation last season + hasn't been able to get off the bench this season in NJ.

A gargantuan difference in the two player's level of play.

Tony Battie hasn't been a rotation worthy player since he sat out a season three years ago due to injury.

Battie has got a serviceable jumper out to about 18-19 feet now. It's slightly below average and you'd like to avoid it but it's serviceable. It's where most of his jump shots (16-20 feet) come from nowadays.

Last season in Orlando, he was taking more shots from there than in the paint.

Someone needs to explain to me how a guy who can't get minutes on one of the worst teams in the history of the NBA is going to make any kind of difference to the Celtics.

There seems to not be a reason why some players don't play; it isn't always because they're not good enough.  Why doesn't TJ Ford play over the rookie in Indy?  Why didn't Nate play for a month in NY?  Why is the sky blue?  Why DOES Sheed play here?  Why didn't Jermaine O'Neal play in Portland?

Same for some young players.  Why don't other teams pick them up when someone cuts them?  Perhaps they suck, but perhaps other teams have so much dead-weight guaranteed contracts on their roster already, they don't have enough spots.  Perhaps they want to save the roster spot because they're over the tax threshold.  Perhaps they dont' need that position, or have other young players/projects to deal with already.

You may be right, however there are tons of reasons why decent players don't get run.  He might still fill a role on another team.  Perhaps they'd be better if Kiki played Battie and gave the inconsistent Yi fewer minutes, but naturally they want to develop Yi for the future, and Tony isn't part of that.

He averaged 16 minutes a game last season with the Eastern conference champs...

careful with what you say, it sounds like Blount was just waived and will be available to be signed

might as well sign him...with his attitude, he'd fit right in.
