ESPN says he's going to have surgery on his thumb and likely out 6 to 8 weeks.

Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Not good news... Never want any players to get injured no matter what.  Besides I want the C's to beat every team at full strength.

how awesome would it be now if big Z signs with the mavs? It would serve the cavs right. In any case, they looked much better against the celtics without shaq, he killed the team defensively.

Just like Shaq killed the Suns run-and-gun offensive style, but all in all I thought Shaq fit in better with a more half-court oriented team in the Cavs (hell, LeBron James has been known to lead fastbreaks all by himself).

That would be a nice change.

This is a blow to the Cavs title chances. It may also help them long run but make no mistake about it, Shaq is an asset to that team. I suggested we call BBD "The wrecking ball" and now it looks an even better nickname.

This also takes away any doubt where Big Z winds up.

this may be the biggest contribution Glen Davis has made to the Celtics' season so far

Shaq was what gave us the advantage over them. But Big Z is big and slow as well...

Wow, that's very bad news for the Cavs.

Even if Shaq comes back in time for the playoffs and is healthy and ready to go ... the team won't have had time to develop chemistry/understanding with him and Jamison on the court. Not offensively and more importantly not defensively.

This could make Cleveland a lot more vulnerable come playoff time.

It hurts Cle's depth at center until Z returns but they're a better team with him off the floor.

Clev did have the best record in the league with Shaq, so I am cautious about criticizing his role. The injury though is big, because Shaq's return will now be disruptive.

It is also big because they lost their post scoring big man. Jamison seemed a perfect compliment to Shaq. Now they will not get a chance to build chemistry.

Well it's about time he got hurt.  The C's, who are apparently "old," have been hit by the injury bug all year.  Shaq is much older and in much worse shape in a much bigger body.  He should be getting hurt.  I'm only surprised that it was in a relatively freak accident.
