Why did it take doc so long to figure out that Leon could play?

The year Leon took the leap and starting contributing more I noticed physically he looked a lot stronger than his first 2 years. He was really skying and dunking on people. He was being more physical. Maybe it took 2 years of NBA conditioning to get him strong enough to feel confident in his game. It was clear he was a different player his first two years than his last 2 here in Boston.


Doc isnt crazy people. He hasnt whiffed on one guy as far as I can tell. Any young guy we ship out of here that Doc doesnt play, doesnt play anywhere else either.

It took Doc so long to play Leon because he wasnt NBA ready yet.

I think the question is "Why did it take Powe so long to learn how to rotate, and where he was supposed to be on offense?"

I know some of you refuse to accept this, but in his first year and a half (and even for a while after he started getting playing time), Powe looked like he was playing in a different system than anyone else.  He could go get the ball, but he had no clue where to be, and gummed up everything else.

Somehow or another Powe was held back from becoming the next Karl Malone by Doc, mistreated and disrespected by Danny, was singlehandedly responsible for the Celtics rise to greatness in 2007-08, won the Finals all by himself and cured four once incurable diseases while building homes for the homeless and giving religious advice to the Pope all at the same time

AND tonight he is going to come back from his minor little injury and drop 50 points and 35 rebounds on the Celtics jus because he can

When national media calls him a key role player for the 2007-2008 title team when he averaged 11 minutes per game. (and he averaged a less than that in the ECF and Finals) I think its fair to get frustrated with it all.

I know some of you refuse to accept this, but in his first year and a half (and even for a while after he started getting playing time), Powe looked like he was playing in a different system than anyone else.  He could go get the ball, but he had no clue where to be, and gummed up everything else.

yeah, if doc gave powe minutes that year, powe might have ruined the defensive force that defined the 2006-2007 celtics.

I think there is a strong argument that if Powe had been thrown out there before he was ready, it would have actually slowed his development by reinforcing bad habits.

And again, it was not just defense.  He had no clue where to go on offense either.

Well, he had that nasty dunk where the Lakers watched him dribble the ball from well before half court. He got a lot of mileage off of that play.

Well, he had that nasty dunk where the Lakers watched him dribble the ball from well before half court. He got a lot of mileage off of that play.

BBD had one of those too in game 6.

No one was taking a charge from him when it was a 30 point game lol.
