you know how when KG got hurt, Obese Davis ended up getting most of his minutes?  You know how Obese was able to hit a few jumpers and people started saying he was "playing great" and "filling in admirably"?  ... you know how in reality, Obese was a poor rebounder and his stubby fat little arms were incapable of mimicking the length, speed and savvy of KG on the defensive end... and a lot of Boston fans were ignorant to the fact that replacing KG with a fat 2nd round draft pick destroyed the team despite his "big numbers"?

Well when I watched Nate yesterday and saw him buzzing around... trying to use his short stubby arms to be effective on defense and ultimately getting burned... I started thinking he'll be the point guard version of Obese Davis.  Someone who might put up some numbers, but will kill us if he ends up getting important minutes.

THat's just me, though.

He'll be a fun sideshow... kinda like watching some short fat guy play power forward.  But I'll never take a player serious who is 5'7 and my 5'4 asian friend was able to post up in a pickup game.
I see what you are saying but in one instance, you an undersized PF taking over for a seven foot future HOF (not to mention the defensive captain).  On the other hand, you have an undersized guard who can shoot and drive taking over for a one dimensional shooter.  Robinson isn't a savior but of course, knowledgeable fans knew that already.  But what he is, is an upgrade over House; at least in terms of talent.  Whether he will fit is yet to be seen.  But at the least, I think the team got better.

... don't get me wrong.  Now we have a short fat guy (Obese), a midget (Nate), a guy who I've been convinced for years should be playing in the special olympics (tony allen... no offense... im just sayin... watch the guy shoot free throws), an albino ginger (Scal) and a certifiable headcase (Sheed) making up our bench... we're a Gheorghe Muresan away from completing our circus act of freakish nba reserves.   It'll be a fun stretch.

What's really missing from the Celtics bench is Marvin Barnes.

Hakim Warrick plays terrible defense, and Julian Wright just stinks.

Agree with most.  Nervous, quick, short and lost.  But, brings way more to the table than Eddie -- though I noticed that what Eddie does bring is scary when on the other end of it.  I thought he had nailed his last 2 shots when they were in the air -- but he missed...barely.

I am looking forward to a breakout game over the next couple of weeks, then at least we'll have a window into what is possible.

I thought Hakim Warrick's defense has been considerably improved this season. Scott Skiles has been good for him. Still not great but serviceable.

No longer the massive liability that he was in Memphis.

Nate was put in a position to fail so I'm not disappointed. As I said in another thread, I think the absence of Daniels in the second unit really disrupted the chemistry. Nate was the only ball handler and he did not know the plays. That pretty much sums up the production of the bench against the Knicks.

If he's not that quick, not a pure shooter and has short, stubby arms, how do you explain 13.2 points 2.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 24 minutes per game operating amidst the giants.

I haven't watched him enough since College, but... I'd guesstimate it had something to do with him sneaking between his opponents legs and generally spooking them like a mouse to an elephant.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I was at the game last night and I watched him whenever he was on the floor--he looked totally lost and really jittery. He needs some practice time with the team before I can judge him for myself. He was very fast, he didn't move much without the ball, he usually ran to the corners on offense and then stayed in the line of sight of whoever had the ball. If he didn't have an open man he seemed to panic a bit and tried to create a shot, mot of which were bad, forced shots. But--it would only be fair to give him a few weeks to get acclimated. He IS as fast a Rondo or Tony Allen, did have a couple steals and an INSANE amount of energy. I liked that Doc had him in wit Rondo during most of his minutes.
