With the injury to Josh Howard, could he be done in the NBA? Is his buy low price this upcoming offseason a good risk for the Celtics who might look to supplement Ray Allen's minutes with someone of equal if superior talent?

Howard will be looked at and might be a good option for the Celtics to use a portion of the MLE on. A Leon Powe type contract with higher figure might suffice.

I don't think he is completely done. He's not that old and plenty of people come back from torn ACLs. He may not be 100% next year, but he still has basketball talent. His status as a knuckle-head will probably hurt his asking price more than the injury per se.

I, for one, would love to see him work his way back next year on the C's bench. Playing as a reserve would be perfect for getting back into form because he can play against second-stringers while limiting wear on his knee. He and Quis are good friends from their days in Dallas, so maybe he considers Boston an option if Quis comes back. It's nice to think about a bench consisting of Robinson, Quis, and Howard.

I can see Howard signing a Posey-style one year deal with us to boost his value around the league. Do you see him recieving more than the MLE next year?

So why even comment in the thread if you cant be bothered with the thought of what might happen in the offseason. Some people like to look ahead a little and considering the constraints the Celtics have on signing players this upcoming offseason, I like the possibility of bringing a guy in like Howard. Even if it has nothing to do with this season, I still like to think ahead every now and then. It's kind of fun.

Because I'm allowed to state my opinion...  And I believe that this is a waste of time.  the guy is a jerk and he's coming off an injury that may impact his ability to play at a solid level.  why the sudden rush to go after him? 

with the economics of the world and the unknown state of the NBA (CBA agreement) why would you want to invest, even the MLE, in a guy like this? 

there will be plenty of guys looking for work because a LOT of teams are now worrying about the bottom line.  howard would be at the bottom of my list...

Now that is a contribution to the discussion. Merely coming in to the thread stating that you dont get threads like this is a waste of everyone's time.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I also agree that the MLE is way too much for this guy. Considering the economics of the NBA and his injury, I could see this guy's stock dropping waaay below the MLE. He was having a crappy year before the injury (to his standards).

I was thinking more of a Daniels type one year deal. Very minimal investment for a possible bounce back 2nd half to next year.
