Celtics: Trying to Flip the Switch

Here's to hoping they pull it off. It really looks like they were letting the entire month of January slide with the intent of ramping up the intensity and "turning it on" after the all-star break. If they actually pull it off (which it looks like they're in the process of doing. 3-1 on that west coast swing. Not bad AT ALL) I will be flabbergasted and joyous. I have never seen a team turn it on successfully (think: Pistons) but I hope to God this is the team that proves to be the exception to the rule.

Nah, the Spurs were notorious for it - the "Rodeo Roadtrip" they hit sometime around February.  In the past, they'd always coast through the first few months and turn it on in the second half of the season to be near the top of the league come playoff time.

I don't think they won when they did that. As I recall, they went hard all year in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and took an off year in between each hard run for the championship.

The Nuggets do it on a game-by-game basis... they play hard against good teams and then barely try against the bottom-feeders.

But the Nuggets lacking mental discipline? I don't think that's a surprise to anybody after looking at their roster...


Of course you could make the argument they haven't won a championship while employing their little "on/off switch", I think last year they gave it as good a shot as anybody else. Besides, not all good teams win it all (think of that Mavericks team that lost in the Finals).
