Tweets from Mark Heisler of the LA Times:

Quote
HOLD THAT HOMECOMING. Source says NBA has told other teams it won't let Z go back to Cavs. May be woofing with no rule against it, maybe not

Quote
HOMECOMING II: Wizards haven't even bought out Zydrunas Ilgauskas yet but everyone knows it's coming and NBA officials read papers

Quote
HOMECOMING III: NBA stopped just one now-common trade-buyout-re-sign scam-when Stackhouse admitted it--may be working on way to make it two

Meanwhile, Chris Mannix says that the NBA might be in for a fight if it tries to prevent Big Z from returning to Cleveland:

Quote
If the NBA bans Z from going back to the Cavs, the union is going to throw a fit. Unless they show evidence Z and Cavs had prearranged...

Quote
...a deal to re-sign Z, they are going to be in for a bitter fight if they try to stop it.

Quote
@ArashMarkazi Because they can't. It has to be collective bargained and the union would NEVER allow it.

The only way the league could stop this is if they determine that the Cavs / Wizards were circumventing the intent of the CBA (which of course they were).  Without rock solid proof, this might be hard to stop.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Even if Z still goes to Cleveland, sounds like this will be a fight.  Hope it gets nasty and ugly!  :)

If the league stops this from happening...

What do you think of Big Z still getting bought out and the chances the C's got at signing him? (I know there is a thread on this already)

I don't think we'd have much of a shot at him, just because we can't offer more than the minimum, and we don't have a huge need.

I could see him going to Atlanta, though.

You know I hate the Cavs at the moment with passion, but in the off-chance that they win it all, it would be kinda sad if Z isn't with them. He's actually a player I like.

I heard Dallas is looking at him too.  What do you think are their chances?

I really don't have a problem with the players going back to their teams.

I mean if we traded Ray I'm sure we all would have wanted him to get bought out and for us to resign him.

Why don't the NBA & Washington just engage in a little "collusion" to prevent it from happening?

The NBA should raise hell about this, say they know this is just circumvention of the CBA, let all the teams know they are sick of it and will starting putting watchdogs in league offices if they hear any more trade rumors next year about players being bought out and returning to their team before a trade is even consummated and just jot this down as another loophole they have to fix with the next CBA

I don't think this course of action will accomplish anything until the loophole is closed with a new CBA  but it is another issue for the league to bring forward to make everyone forget just how wretched the officiating is

I hope the NBA wins this fight. I'm really sick of these purely economics based trade agreements where one team gets an absurdly better deal talent wise.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

After their past 2 games, are you still sure about that?  :p
