Time to sit BBD and give Shelden Some Run

I've had enough. I am so sick and tired of seeing BBD get stuffed underneath the rim. I am sick of him bending in half thinking he is going to suddenly explode up and score. He has the vertical of a sack of potatoes. You can basically take about 2-3 of his rebounds a game and throw them out because all he does is sit down there and get stuffed. He isn't playing great defense. He is fat and out of shape again. Its time to make him pay the price by bringing Shelden back out there. Man I wish BBD had been packaged with someone and shipped out of town. It's only going to go downhill from here.

I really think he's just been unlucky with the blocks.  Last year, he was blocked only 13% of the time on shots that are close to the rim.  Hopefully he can turn it around, but I do not see Shelden really helping this team out too much.

BBD is doing a lot of good things out there; I think the frustration stems from the fact that one of those things is not scoring.  BBD rarely plays in a way that is pleasing to the eye.

Shelden isn't exactly Kevin McHale, though.  Unless he is a huge upgrade in terms of getting rebounds, it's not worth having him out there.  He's taller but doesn't hussle like BBD or have the same ability to hit shots from mid-range.

Yes, and 3 out of those 4 he got blocked going back up. That sure produced a lot. Sure glad we had those points on the board… Not sure what game you were watching, but I really don't recall him "saving the game" for us against the Trailblazers. A couple nice plays drawing charges in 23 minutes doesn't seem that impressive. He shot 3-8 from the floor. Only had 2 rebounds during that game. How about mentioning all the blocks he is getting called for in the rest of the games since he is too fat to move quickly enough into position to draw the charge.

The fact is the guy acted the fool in the offseason and broke his hand causing him to miss a lot of games. While he was gone a guy came in and played his butt off and filled his shoes nicely and was able to increase the results rebounding the basketball. Not only did BBD cause himself to miss those games, he comes back fatter than last year which has made his defensive rotations slow. His shooting percentage is down. He can't shoot from the outside for some reason anymore. Why reward the guy for bad behavior and lazy conditioning. He brings so much less to the game than all you BBD fans try to portray. We were a better team with Shelden.

BBD does so much more for this team. Shelden had a good strech but he really doesn't do anything better than BBD except jump. he gets abused by taller offensive players while BBD has had success in guarding taller centers. Shelden has rock hard hands and can't hold on to any passes while BBD has the best hands of any big man on our team. And although BBD gets blocked a lot, it's usually after an offensive rebound which I have no problem with. There should be no debate about who should get the minutes.

It stopped two potential 3-point plays that might've put the game in the around the 7 point range in the mist of a major Blazer run. Those plays were huge, and that you think nothing of them just makes you lose pretty much most the credibility you have in this issue.

My point, which you are of course trying to twist, is that there have been a lot more POOR plays by BBD since he has returned than good ones. I do not hate BBD. I hate his poor work ethic. I hate the fact that he is more concerned with his nickname (that fits him to a tee) than his poor play. I hate that there is a guy sitting there on the bench who did everything RIGHT in those first few games that made our second unit much better that got the shaft and could help us out.

This is about winning. This is about turning this crap effort around. It needs to be clear that anything other than 100% effort isn't satisfactory. You can't give poor effort off the court and think that just because you try and hustle while you are out there that you are the poster child for effort. If you aren't in good enough shape to do what you need to do then THAT is where your effort failed.

Hehe, I was just thinking during today's game "I wonder when the BBD/Shelden debate is gonna flare up again". 

BBD has been playing well lately and I prefer him to Sheed out there these days, to be honest.  His big flaw coming into this year was his inability to rebound; he's improved dramatically in that area, getting 8.5 reb per 36, up 2 from last year.  He's especially doing well on the offensive glass.  The one thing he's got to start doing is kick the ball out more often when he gets those offensive boards because he is TERRIBLE at getting his shot over bigs in the paint from a standstill.  

Last year we needed Baby to fill KG's role and be a pick-and-pop jump shooter and defend from the paint to the 3 point line.  He did a very solid job at it.  This year we've needed him to fill Powe's role and crash the boards and draw charges on D.  He's doing a very solid job at that, especially lately.  Two very different roles and he adapted his game to each.  That's an excellent quality in a reserve big.

Either way it's academic cause it's pretty clear BBD is in the rotation going forward and Shelden is not.

I've come to realize that some people will always hate Baby. I see no point in arguing. However I do want to make few points.

Besides Perk, Baby is the only Celtics crashing the boards. He is the only Celtics taking Charges. The fact is Baby positives outweighs his negatives. As far the blocked shots, He needs to clear space with his big behind. Use that derrière ala shaquille o'neal to move bodies inside. That should prevent getting his shot blocked.

Are you kidding?? Glen was one of the only players who showed some life today ... without him taking charges, drawing fouls, and rebounding, the Portland game would have ended up much differently, too. The guy makes some immature mistakes, but he also givess 100% every time he's on the floor ... no way I'd bench him for Shelden's sake.

On a team that is having problems with rebounding and with help defense, Big Baby is their best offensive rebounder and their best charge-taker. Enough said.

His hands make Shelden's look like Mark Blount's too. Seriously, Shelden Williams has one of the worst sets of hands in the NBA. Dude can't catch anything.

Since Leon left, no one is really taking charges. Glen Davis is one of the only guys stepping in and taking them at all now. I didn't really think about it at the time, but not having someone who can take a charge really hurt our defense, imo.
