If you guys remember back in '86, when Hakeem mopped the floor of the Laker's frontline, and then Sampson hit that prayer on the buzzer, there was a sense of disappointment, not only for Celtics nation, but also for the league.

That was really the year where the C's could have gone 4-0 or 4-1 against the Lakers, w/o a problem, and everyone wanted to see it, including folks from other cities.

In today's world, the matches people want to see are basically... the Cavs vs the Lakers or the Celts vs Lakers. The 1st one, to watch the primadonnas, LeBron vs Kobe duke it out, and the second, to watch the greatest sports rivalry with some *unfinished business* from the '08 finals.

Our rivalry now isn't even close to what it was back in the 80's. Not even in the same ballpark. We as Celtic and Lakers fans probably still hate each other. But the rest of the world really doesn't think much about it anymore.

But even if what you think was true then the Celtics would still want to win. LA is getting too [dang] close to us in banners. We need to get what we can now because it looks like
they could win a few more with what they've got now.

Good Point..that's why we need to take care of business this year...make the count 18 to 15.....no way in the world that LA will catch us in the Banner count, then.

We (or Dallas or Denver) stop them this year, and with the way that those two are stacked, I don't see LA beating them next year.

LA's window is not as wide open as I used to believe...injuries/age are starting to afect them, too..Gasol has missed some games..he'll be 30 next year. Kobe will be 32 next year, and is already showing signs of slowing down..Artest will be 31 or 32 next year. Bynum seems to stay in Phil's Doghouse too much.

Imagine Kobe getting frustrated after another Finals loss to us this year...he opts out of LA...Bynum gets traded for crumbs...

I love it ;D ;D

celts are gonna tear it up in the playoffs..

i dont care about cleveland

i dont care about los angeles

i dont care about denver

gimme ray, pierce, kg, rondo, and sheed in the playoffs against anyone in a 7 game series..

whether this is the last season with a chance or not, get real.

when the c's play bad, everybody says were old. when we win, everythings fine..

the celts are nasty.
"Antoine.. For The Game.. GOT IT.. OFF THE GLASS!!! WITH 1.2 ON THE CLOCK!!! THE CELTS ARE UP BY 1!!!!!... AN-TOINE WALKER BANKS IT HOME!!!!

What makes you think the Celtics are the front runners for going to the finals? Is it the below record we have held since December?

Garnett playing like someone who has never played basketball before?

Allen's poor shooting?

Perkins frustration with not getting enough touches?

Our poor defense, laziness, and lack of effort on both ends of the floor?

I know we are looking better here after the all star break, but at the current time I wouldnt call them the front runners with our awful record against the other top 3 teams in the East. The Hawks have our number, the Magic outplay us, and the Cavs are much younger and have shown they can beat us as well... Im not saying we wont make the finals, but we have a lot to prove in the last couple weeks if we want to become frontrunners.

The whole premise of this thread is silly, because the WCF and ECF run concurrently.  If the Nuggets do make the Finals, it wouldn't happen until within a few days of when WE'D be making the Finals.  Why in the world would the team then make some kind of decision about whether to win the series they're in?

If anything, I think there is a calling for Cavs-Lakers, not Celtics-Lakers right now.

they dont even care for a cavs/lakers final......they want it to be a lbj/kobe final.

And a Superman Bowl ECF.  God that's the manufactured controversy of the year so far and nothing else is even close.
