People rag on Sheed way too much right now. He stopped taking ill-advised 3s and has been playing good defense, rebounding, and posting up. He's gonna be a beast in the playoffs I'm telling you.

Ray and Sheed have been doubted the most this season and people are gonna EAT THEIR WORDS after the playoffs when we are hanging #18!!

Ray is one of my favorite players, and I have had NO doubts about him this year or any other. Sheed is another story, and he hasn't come CLOSE to "not taking ill-advised threes anymore" - in the last three games he's 1 of 10 shooting threes, and that's horrendous! He's also had a total of 5 rebounds in the last two games, despite having played over 43 minutes, so there goes the "good defense" theory. I don't know what games you've watched where he was doing all this improving, but despite a decent showing offensively on Tuesday, he's been just plain bad in almost every other aspect and game. Blind admiration is understandable ... we all have our favorites that we will augment in our minds for the sole fact that we like them, but please don't be specific when touting areas of his game that have not been good at all. Sorry, but when it comes to Sheed, I have no worries about eating any words, other than when I said I'd give him the benefit of the doubt when he first came here.

Sheed will be alright, Sheed knows what he was signed here to do. Give us great minutes against SHAQ & Dwight Howard in the PLAYOFFS! Everybody wants to knit-pick Sheed on his faults, but doesn't realize that he plays within the confines of the team on Offense & Defense. Makes good passes, Sets good screens for the shooters, rotates well on help side defense & is a major distraction for the other team offensively & defensively being that you have to account for him. I will take a 7-footer who can post, shoot jumpers, pass, block shots & defend anyday of the week. Too bad alot of you dont appreciate what we have in him, so what if he doesnt get 20 & 10 a night. He still does alot of things to help teams win ball games! He is crazy so he is going to get techs, but dont let that haze your view of him.

Wow ... I just don't know where everyone sees all these great things he does ... yeah he's big and he's a solid post player, but the problem is he RARELY posts up, so what the heck good is it? He rarely moves his feet or even gets his hands up on defense ... this is basic stuff we're atlking about, and the fact is that what he does BEST is what he does the LEAST, and that's because he likes to take the easy way out ... and always puts himself before the team. Enough out of me, though ... I'll leave the rest of this love thread for just that, and we can agree to disagree when it comes to this subject. If he can truly do all these wonderful things come playoff time, then I'll give him all the props he'll deserve, but at this point, he does NOT deserve them. Yup, agree to dis agree ... I hate being pessimistic anyway, but Sheed brings out the worst in me. ;)

I'd take a 7 footer that can do all those things too.  Sounds an awful lot like the way KG has been playing as of late and not Sheed.  Sheed hardly does any of those things on a consistent basis.  He definitely doesn't pass that much as most of the time he's tossing up bad shots.  The thing is that he could still stretch the defense if he wanted to by taking 4-5 steps in and take a higher percentage shot.  You do not need to take a 3 to stretch the defense, Baby opened up the defense last year with his corner jumper.  Also, rebounding is a part of defense, if he's going to defend the ball but not rebound he has no use.  We're one of the worst rebounding teams in the league, we need to hit the glass!
do it

Last two games: 5/18 for field-goals, 0/6 for tres, 5 total rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks, in over 43 minutes on the court ... powerhouse!  ::)

It's funny what being on a winner and winning a championship can do for the perception of a player

Rasheed Wallace's game has pretty much been the same since he entered the league, though nowadays his game is only a fraction of what it once was(I don't want to discuss what fraction it is only saying it is not as good as it was)

His attitude was once god awful but after getting out of Portland it became only awful

But winning in Detroit and winning a championship seemed to make people forget just what a big mouth he had and how selfishly he acted to the detriment of his team

Now that his game isn't what it was and his game is hurting his team as much as his mouth, people are taking notice again

Compare his situation to that of say Zach Randolph

Randolph has had numerous on and off court problems from punching Ruben Patterson in the face to a sexual assault case that was never tried due to lack of evidence to having cars of his found street racing to being accused by his coach and team mates of dogging it while rehabbing an injury

Randolph has, since being traded out of New york been a model citizen off the court and in the locker room and even on the court has shown a greater effort in being less selfish by playing better defense and passing out of double teams more

Randolph seems to have matured some and tried to change but since he hasn't been in a winning situation(Memphis still has to prove they ARE a winning situation) he gets little credit for an obvious attempt to change while being a monster of a player while Rasheed, who really never did change was forgiven his sins because he was put into a championship winning situation

Strange the sins that are forgiven and forgotten by fans because of winning

Even now, Rasheed hasn't been all that much different a player over the last three games

He's still racking up technicals, giving little effort on the boards, being late on rotations and jacking up threes and missing them but because we are winning this thread is born asking who can't we not love Sheed

Answer is simple

I don't love him because he is not a person I respect nor does he have a team attitude I respect nor has he ever attempted to repent and change his ways like so many, many, many others have that played sports and screwed up

I fixed up the title.  Based on the OP, I think the point of this thread was Rasheed's joy of saying "Ball don't lie" on a missed free throw (not a general thread about Rasheed).

I find the saying pretty funny, but it's like beating a dead horse after a while.  It's almost obligatory at this point (like KG's "get that ---- out of here" on every block).  It's like a reflex.
Yup

The team and or coaches definitely talked to Rasheed about his attitude.  The past couple of games he has been a model teammate.

In fact there was one incident where Garnet was seen explaining something to Sheed and Sheed was totally soaking it in.  That was the first time I've even seen KG talk to Sheed.

Watch his interactions with his team and you'll see a new motivated Sheed.  I think Doc asked him the same question he asked Rondo, "Do you think your teammates like playing with you?"

Sheed got another technical tonight, and it wouldn't matter if it was game 7 of a championship series, if he felt like running his mouth at the sake of being tossed from a game at a crucial time, he would DO it ... he's dont it before and he'll do it again. Sheed cares most about Sheed, and if he has an axe to grind, he'll grind it, and if he's irritated enough he'll run his yap until he gets tossed, whether it hurts the team, or loses an important game or not. Being a true Celtic and having the heart of a champion, means putting the team first, despite the fact that you may not like a call one of the officials has made. He's immature and selfish, and always has been ... nothing has changed ... the Celtics knew what they were getting when they acquired Sheed, and gambled that "Ubuntu" and the influence of unselfish team-mates would snap him out of these bad habits ... tonight was another clear example that it hasn't worked. Sheed being Sheed, and it's not likely to ever change.

he probably won't ever stop getting techs but I'm just pointing out that he seems WAY more team oriented as of late.  I agree that techs hurt the team and that is what you get when you get Sheed but the first half of the year it seemed like he was not really into the team on any level.

I have seen him actually talking to his teamates as of late and that counts as change.

Rasheed doesnt suck, you will love him when it counts most. Playoff Time, regular season bores these veterans who are playing only for championships.
He must have been "bored" with the Pistons all those years when they didn't turn it on in the playoffs.

You mean the season after season they would make it to the East final?   Or the year they won a title?   Those under performers!

I am waiting to the playoffs before I pass any judgment on this signing.

He won a title. I'll give him that. The other years they got their butt's handed to them when it was rather easy to get to the Easter Finals.

The man is trash. And I'll be happy when he's out of the NBA and off the Celtics.

I don't remember the Celtics sweeping them.  In fact, I remember they were the 1st team that beat the Celtics in Boston during the playoffs.

Wallace is the most talented bench player on the Celtics.  When he decides to play, the Celtics bench outplays the bench of the team they are facing.

As long as he brings it during the playoffs, we will be very happy.

Sorry, I don't want to hope that a fat, out of shape guy will just turn it on in the playoffs. I'd like for him to do it a little during the season too.

And that mouth will hurt us too before it's over with.

And as for them getting a win in Boston. They didn't put up as much of a fight as the Cavs or even the Hawks.

I love the Celtics. Hope I turn out to be wrong about this human trash dump. But just because someone has green on won't mean I'll like them. Or not point out all the things they do wrong. Over and over and over again.

I sort of feel the same way, wasn't totally aganist the signing but wasn't 100% onboard either..im trying to be fair and unbiased about how i judge his overall performance for the season.
