His name is spelled AntAWn not AntWAn.

Why do people call him "Antwan" (like Antoine Walker)?

Does he spell his name improperly or are all of the commentators ignorant of how his name is supposed to be pronounced?

This has been bothering me.

edit:

I just saw on Wikipedia that apparently his parents spelled his name wrong on the birth certificate but decided to keep it spelled this way to make it more "distinctive."

Sigh.  I'm sorry but stuff like that bothers the crap out of me.

Yeah ... me, too, (AR/OCD stuff) ... I still refuse to call him anything but how it's spelled: AN-TAWN (like ann-tahn).

  • You know my methods, Watson.
small piece of side trivia...  Jhonny Peralta (Indians SS) had the same issue regarding his name.  Was misspelled on his birth certificate and he decided to just leave it like that.  Has nothing to do with anything, but might win you a point in trivial pursuit.

Yeah, I'm sorry, you may want to be "unique" but you can't tell people to pronounce your name completely differently than it's spelled.  My name is Sam, I can't go telling people that's it's actually pronounced "Steve."

At least "Jhonny" actually sounds like "Johnny" when you pronounce it phonetically.

Agreed (TP) ... maybe it's just some kind of bizarre phonetics rebellion against the man. ;)

Yeah, that one's annoying too but at least it's plausible.
