Why didn't the Bulls do the same thing the Knicks did?

Subject line states pretty much my whole point, but just to summarize the overall though:

If you're the Bulls and you've got Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah locked up right now, wouldn't you give some thought to calling Boston and offering a godfather package? Say a basis of Ray Allen and a pick for Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich?

Come summer 2010 you're recruiting free agents in the house of Jordan, in Dwayne Wade's hometown, with Derek Rose ALREADY there, room for 2 max contracts and two first round picks.

I know it stinks to lose, but if you're a Chicago fan base how are you not completely on board with this? I understand there's a chance you might lose out, but how could you ignore this enticing package?

Because the Bulls are complete morons... they keep overvaluing their players and keep missing the big picture constantly. Didn't read your post by the way... too lazy.

One max contract. What I'm saying is that I think they'd be much better off putting all their chips in and going for 2

They have a much better core than New York and don't have the need to go after 2 max guys.

They have enough to add a max guy to the mix as currently constituted.

I thought the Bulls best plan of action was to keep Deng and try to entice a max contract free agent. If they got one of the top five free agents -- LeBron, Wade, Bosh, JJ, Amare -- they'd have a core capable of contending for a title.

I thought the dump Deng for cap space was a greater risk for greater reward but relative to the risk wasn't as good of an option as above.

I was disappointed that the Bulls didn't trade Kirk Hinrich.

I don't believe for one second that they couldn't have gotten an expiring contract for him if they handled their negotiations in a reasonable manner over the past few months.

I think they asked for too much too early and consequently the number of suitors dropped over time ... and by the time they were willing to take an expiring contract for Hinrich there was nobody left bidding for him.
