Here’s hoping for the best. To be perfectly honest, I was guilty of the excitement of “change for the sake of change.” The idea of Trading Ray Allen was floated and I got excited about the possible package we’d receive in return. Then the rumor floated about BBD going to Charlotte for Augustin. Then there was discussion about Nate Robinson. Then there was discussion about Butler and Jamison. And then Amar’e….

At this point, I couldn’t wait for the other shoe to drop. “Okay…something is going down. Any day now. We’re going to turn Ray’s expiring along with Scal Eddie and TA into something big. This is when we reshape the direction of the franchise.”

Well, it’s 2 hours after the trade deadline and we have…Nate Robinson. A lot of sizzle on a 6 ounce steak. Did we get the best player in the trade? Yes I think so. Did we sacrifice anything of significant value? Maybe, but likely no.

Like many other Celtics fans, I feel to quote Teddie KGD, “so dissatisfied.”

But, what would have brought satisfaction? Kevin Martin or Amar’e for Ray? Butler and Jamison plus 30 Million? I don’t know.

Being honest, a lot of the concerns that exist with this team today could be seen this summer.
-KG’s Health
-Ray's Eventual Decline (Which has been drastically exaggerated)
-Rasheed’s inconsistent Play
-The team’s long term outlook on the season, which results in short term lack of focus

I think we’d be fooling ourselves if we said that the above issues come as a complete shock. However, I don't know what deal was available to alter our current path.

So, where does that leave us?
Present day it seems that there are two camps of Celtics fans.

I’ll call he first the “Turn the Page” fans
The Team is old and the window is shut. Move on and get younger

The second is the “Last Hurrah” group
Let everyone get healthy, see what spark Robinson brings and a veteran team will prevail in a 7 game series.

Two hours after the trade deadline, I don’t know which group I’m in and don’t know what to think of this team.

Here’s to hoping for the best…
"      “I can make a trade every day if I want to, but that's not going to help us. A trade that would get us better rarely comes along. They're very difficult to find. Good trades are very difficult in our league and don't happen very often.”
-Danny Ainge

With Danny waiving Hudson earlier this season, a 3 for 2 trade, and Landry most likely being waived, i beleive Danny has a plan. He always has a plan. He has opened up 2-3 roster spots. Maybe he knows of a major buyout that we dont know of.

I could see someone like Kurt Thomas getting bought out.  Doubt it would be anyone more exciting than that.

Nice post.  You sum up the situation very well.

Personally I want to be in the "last hurrah" group but I haven't seen anything on the court in the last few months to justify being in that camp.  Hopefully something will change.

In any case, I don't think it's possible to realistically "turn the page" right now anyway, so we have to try to have the "last hurrah" whether we like it or not.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Just kinda feels like the team in the late '80s all over again, when you KNEW they were too old and not quite good enough to win it all, but they still had just enough to still be competitive.

Just hope that we don't end up looking back at not trading Ray Allen the same way we look back at not trading Kevin McHale.

It was such a short run. Management hardheadiness and loyalty to Ray,PP and KG will again be our downfall.  Ray is now essentially worth nothing, PP will never be traded so his future value is essentially nothing, and we'll be lucky if KG can still run up and down the court by the time his contract is up-zip value again! Danny kept saying Red made a mistake not trading the original big 3 while they still had trade value, and now he is repeating the mistake of history and bringing us to ruin again.  Loyalty, sadly, has no place in todays' NBA!
It's a sad, sad day, as I now realize that again, the most exciting part of the NBA basketball season will be ping pong balls! :-[ :-[ :-[
