The Spurs Have really come alive!

Although many san antontio fans where initially upset to see the long tenured tony parker leave town, many have come around in recent weeks on Jarret Jack as his play has continued to improve. In the month of February he averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 assists while shooting 47% from the field and a mind boggling 50% from downtown. He is joined in the backcourt by the season turning stephen jackson, a re-energized shawn marion, the pereniall all nba team member tim duncan and the underrated Samuel Dalembert (a rich mans perk cause he is paid more!)

My roster is as follows, but I will be playing  a larger lineup starting marion at the sf and stephen jackson at the sg. Barbosa will be the sixth man. Love it

;)

I think this would be a much better team with a starting lineup of Jack/Mason/Jackson/Marion/Duncan and bringing in Dalembert, Duhon and Barbosa off the bench for a tight 8 man rotation

Unfortunately the bench falls off pretty quickly at that point

I think I liked the team better before the Tony Parker trade

A PF off the bench with energy and defense is a must addition

A 6 through 8 playoff team though with a first round loss in it's future

8th place. For a team with duncan, marion, stephen jackson, jarrett jack, barbosa, dalembert you predict 8th. Wow, maybe a little upset i ragged on your team earlier? Ill give you a tommy point for the feedback but taking this in the context of the game where the conferences are equal (ie 50 win teams aren't 8th in the west) saying this team would be around 500 is laughable (in my opinion)
Could be 6th place too

maybe better

I feel LA Pigs, Utah, Denver, New Orleans, Memphis, Phoenix and even Sacramento have really good teams

Also, if I am correct didn't the West have 8 or 9 50 win teams in the real NBA over the last few years

Whats to say that your Spurs don't win 52 games and come in 6th

I'm not being vindictive, just as objective as I can regarding any team I see here

I think you have a good team, it's just in a very competitive conference
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

Yeah, I prefer that new lineup to the older one (with Jack and Barbosa in the same backcourt). Barbosa will be a great 6th man for your club.

Well as far as the Sixers go I think we are legit contenders. I would also say that I would have humphries as my back pf and big z the back up C. Along with that I would say it would depend on the situation at the end of games as to who would be on the floor. My sf's are the greatest but they will all see equal time to keep them fresh and to get the most out of them. I think my backup at pf is something I need to address. All in all though I think this team would be a legit contender and would easly beat the old sixers.
This team has to start Ilgauskas and Crawford and bring Lopez and Gordon off the bench to be successful

A starting lineup of the mini men in the back court is a recipe for disaster and Lopez doesn't have what it takes to start in this league

But make those changes to the lineup and you will give a run for that final playoff spot though probably not successfully

The bench unfortunately is your team's undoing as there's just no getting around the lack of size in the back court, talent at the PF spot, youth on the wing and quality at the SF position from your bench

First of all have u seen Robin Lopez starting for the Suns, he's been putting up good numbers offensively and very defensive minded guy. I dont think the height problem will be that much a factor as you would think with starting Gordon and Nelson together. As far as size in the backcourt I know Boytkins is small, crawford isnt that short and I could also move stackhouse to the 2 guard and have posey play the sf spot.Humphries also isnt as bad as you think he is, he just doesnt get any playing time and we could go small ball and put posey at the 4.

Position Breakdown:

Point Guard: Devin Harris will start, and play the majority of the minutes here. He will play the majority of the time with at least 3 of the other 4 starters, because of his abilities as a facilitator as well as a scorer. Will Bynum will take most of the left overs, rolling primarily with bench players, because Bynum's value lies in scoring, not distributing. Eric Maynor will sop up whats left, and probably play mostly with starters, as he's a better defender/distributor than Bynum.

Shooting Guard: Thabo Sefelosha will start, and play about just under half the available minutes. He'll play when there are other scorers on the court, and when defense is a priority. He'll play more heavily when the opposing team has a top tier scorer at the 2, and less time when the other shooting guard is less of a threat. Wes Matthews will be the primary other player at the 2, due to his ability to score both from deep and get to the hole. Devin Harris also will get some minutes here throughout the game, mostly when Will Bynum has the point.

Small Forward: Omri Casspi will start, and play most of the minutes. He's shown a lot of promise this season, he's been a decent defender (for a rookie) and shown considerable hustle. More than that he's been a spectacular outside shooter for most of the season, and when he slumps he's still better than most of the league from deep. As he gets better, he'll probably earn more minutes. Ersan Ilyasova will be his primary backup, and while he'll give up some speed to opposing SF's he'll have size and strength on most of them too. Ersan can also hit a long ball, and he'll go to the hoop if he has to. He's also a very good tough defender. Dorrell Wright and Thabo Sefelosha will take up the rest of the minutes, according to who needs to be defended.

Power Forward: Luis Scola will start here, but much like Casspi at the 3, he'll play just over half the minutes. Also like Casspi his primary backup will be Ersan Ilyasova. Scola will be asked to do everything he does in Houston now, but not much else. He plays good team defense, he rebounds well, and he's able to score either from back to the basket post moves or from mid-range jumpers. He's a tough minded player too, and should be a steading force for Brook Lopez while they're out there together. Ilyasova will be in when the Nets want to run, and will stretch the floor with his shooting. Casspi and Wright will play much the same role for sparse minutes. The other player minding the 4, Songaila, will be a good defensive player in the rotation, and can hit a midrange shot.

Center: Brook Lopez will start and play over 30 minutes a game here. He's really got star potential, but right now we'll settle for his 19 points and 10 rebounds a game. Scola will be his primary reliever, and that will mostly be when the tempo needs to be picked up. David Andersen will sop up whats left.

Team Strengths

Rebounding:
The team has a pair of excellent rebounders in the post with Scola and Lopez. Beyond that though Ilyasova and Casspi are both capable rebounders in their own right however. The thing that brings us into elite status as far as the league goes though is Thabo Sefolosha. He's the best rebounding guard in the league, and thus leads all guards in rebounds per 48 minutes. That means in our starting lineup we've got 3 premier rebounders. All the guys in my rotation for SF, PF, and C are adequate rebounders at worse, and elite at best.

Defense: Sefolosha is one of the best defending guards in the league. Devin Harris, before this horrible season, was also a great defender at the point. In the interest of optimism I'm going to blame that on a general lack of moral in New Jersey. Casspi might not be an elite defender, but he held Paul Pierce to shooting 5-15 in Sacramento not a week ago. He's a youth with gusto and the will to hustle, and teams like mine need that. Lopez is capable of anchoring the defense, and is currently 7th in the league in blocks per game. He's a good helpside defender in the prime of his athleticism. Luis Scola isn't particularly athletic, but he's crafty, he's smart, and he's got heart. Maybe due to his Argentinian flair, he's also not against taking a hard charge. Ilyasova and Songaila are both capable defenders, although Ilyasova can get outmatched by bigger 4's.

Three Point Shooting: Casspi, Wright, Ilyasova, Mattews, and even Sefolosha are all shooting at around 35% or better for the season. Even Devin Harris has shown previously that he's a capable shooter with the longball. This means that at times, positions 1-4 can be a real threat from deep. My team doesn't need to live or die from the 3, but they're going to have nights when teams won't know what hit them.

Post Scoring: Scola and Lopez are both excellent scorers in the post. Lopez, because of his size can usually get wherever he wants in the post, and is very able from there. Scola, because of his strength and energy has much the same situation. On the bright side though both guys are also able to hit a midrange shot. Also because my primary backup at the 4 is Ilyasova, and players like him, whoever is playing next to him, whether it's Scola or Lopez, won't have to worry about double teams, so they should have room to work.

Versatility: We can go big, we can go small, we can go fast, we can go strong, and we're not short for fresh legs. Many players on my roster made their bones in the NBA playing dual positions, and they'll be asked to do that here. If a team wants to run, we can run. If we want to slow it down, we can do that too.

Projection/Vision

I made this team much in the mold of the current Houston Rockets. In that same vein, I see this team very much a playoff team. I don't know that they'll get past the first round this season, but they're going to be a tough out for whichever unlucky squad draws them.

That's not the biggest reason people should cringe in the east though. The only guy long in the tooth on the Nets squad is Billy Thomas, and he's mostly there to help along Wes Matthews. After him Luis Scola and David Andersen are both 29, and still have some prime years left. But beyond Scola the heart and soul of the rotation is very young, and will only get better.

On top of that we've got one of the lowest payrolls in the league, in a year when there are going to be lots of FA's coming up next summer. Due to the rules of our fantasy draft, none of the top guys (Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Johnson, etc..) will be available, but that doesn't mean we can't get better. This year, the playoffs, next year...THE WORLD!!!!!!

Alright, that's it. If you read it this far, I'm proud of you. I tried to build a team that can compete today and contend tomorrow. I think I accomplished that.

Scola will be his primary reliever, and that will mostly be when the tempo needs to be picked up. David Andersen will sop up whats left.

Another team I really like but not so sure how good they will be right away

Young with loads of potential and I like the Scola/Lopez pairing a lot as well as the potential in Casspi, Sefolosha, Ilyasova, Matthews and Maynor

In 2-3 years add one superstar wing and this is a contender

I could see myself routing for this team though the lottery is in it's future this year

Would be fun to watch the kids grow and gel together
That said they

Three things:

1.  David Andersen sucks;

2.  Have you been to New Jersey?  Free agents aren't signing there;

3.  Kevin Durant says there's only one future-oriented team that matters in this draft, and he plays for them. ;)

Counterpoint:

1) David Andersen only plays 5.5 minutes in my projected lineup, so even if he sucks, is he worse than Shelden Williams or Rasho Nestrovic?

2) Yes. I've been there. I got lost once and ended up in Patterson. It was...awful. I did hear however that sometime last week New Jersey started to smell a little less terrible. Something must have left. :)

Also, in just a little while, I will be the proud GM of the Brooklyn Nets. Everybody loves Jay-Z. It is a fact.

3) Kevin Durant can say what he likes. He's in Oklahoma City. I'm out of his jurisdiction. Besides, I heard that he hasn't stopped messaging Greg Oden's legs back to health since "The Big Bust" joined the Thunder. When did he have time to call?

And you said we couldn't be competitive....... ;)

I know this team is my binky and I'm supposed to irrational about them, but I don't see this team as anything buy a fringe lottery team at worst this season. I very much think that while they look young, they're not as young as it might seem. Besides Casspi and Matthews, I'm not relying too much on unproven commodities. The young guys I am relying on have all separated themselves from the pack thusfar this season too. Casspi has played well above expectations, and Matthews is starting for the playoff bound Jazz.

I do think this team could really use a 'superstar', but I don't think they need one to stay out of the lottery.

And you said we couldn't be competitive....... ;)
I prediction for the Nyets

Lottery this year

Playoff bound next year

Sign a superstar to add to the mix beyond that and Brooklyn has a contender

I think we are pretty much on the same page with this team

You can find the link to your updated team roster on the "Roster Write-Ups" thread. I apologize - I would have had these done sooner but life and it's realities intervened.

Team rosters left to complete:

Memphis Grizzlies - ChampKind

New Orleans Hornets - FairWeatherFan

Dallas Mavericks - GreenFaith1819

I'll try and have these done by tomorrow ... I didn't do these in any particular order of preference, so for those at the end especially, don't take it personally, and thank you so much for your patience. ;)

Three things:

1.  David Andersen sucks;

2.  Have you been to New Jersey?  Free agents aren't signing there;

3.  Kevin Durant says there's only one future-oriented team that matters in this draft, and he plays for them. ;)

The Clippers would also like to take issue with that last statement by Mr. Kevin Durant.

The Clippers are a big question mark right now; Griffin and Rubio *might* be good, but they also might flop.  Kevin Durant is already a star, and as we all know, stars win in this league.

Can't disagree with that

Stars win

It's why if your team doesn't have arguably a top 5 star in the league, they just can't win it all
