Hey I was hoping someone who's familiar with the NBA trade rules can clarify something for me.

The Wizards aquired Drew Gooden from the Mavs almost a week ago in a mutiplayer deal, and today the traded him to the Clips in a muti team multiplayer deal.....

I was under the impression that the NBA trade rules were that if you obtain a player in a trade, if you want to trade him again, it was to be a one player for one player swap, and if you want to include him in a multiplayer deal you have to wait like 60 days. Clearly what happened here doesnt jive with my understanding of the rules so can someone fill me in on what Im missing?

I had the same (slow) realization earlier.

But, I think there is a 24 hour window/grace period. I could be wrong.

Was it a multi-player swap? I thought they traded only Gooden to LA.

I'm almost positive that you can deal a player again in a multi-player deal within 48 hours.

While the DAL/WAS trade had been discussed for a while i'm sure it only became official some time after everyone passed their physicals (probably Tuesday?).

There is some sort of timed deadline b/c QRichardson was traded like 4 times this summer. So go figure.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Gooden wasn't packaged with other players; as BBallTim said, he went to the Clips without any other players accompanying him.

In similar instances, a lot of times you'll see a deal reported as one trade, when really it's two or more separate transactions (often aided by a trade exception) to get around this particular rule.

Ok so the third team doesnt even matter, as long as player is going to Team A and Team A is only sending one player back to team B
