his last two games have been his best (other than the eruption at toronto earlier this year). he has been going inside, playing a little better D, rebounding a bit, playing like the guy they thought they were getting.

no coincidence, i believe. his name gets floated in trade rumors, and all of a sudden, he picks it up. i have been against him from day one, but if he plays like he has the last 2 games, he is an asset.

I dunno if it's anything other than he always picks it up the closer his team gets to the playoffs (he's a habitual coaster) but i agree about him being an asset.

To quote marshall, i love when he starts his game inside, then moves out. I don't mind him taking 2-4 open three's a game as long as he's going inside more often than not.

I mean, the man is nearly ungardable in the low post. He has an awesome game down their. Frustrating when he settles for nothing but 3's.

In sum, Three when taken as part of his overall game = good sheed

Three taken over and over again, bad sheed :D

No doubt he is an asset.  Despite people thinking that he wouldnt be "allowed" to cruise this year, he clearly has.

I have (and have always had him) in a short list of un-tradeables for the C's.  Come playoff time, this guy will be hugely valuable for us.  I look forward to see Sheed having an increased role as we get closer to the playoffs.

Also, IMO, what he brings to the table make Perk somewhat expendable this year.  I would not balk at trading Perk with Ray for a package like Iggy and Dalembert.

Sheed is the key to number 18.

Sheed can be a big deal - but the condition he has been in this season is deplorable.  He has picked it up lately fortunately.  It is tempting to say he is pacing himself - but really his lack of effort has been galling.  But he is key obviously - to call him untouchable is silly, his contract takes him up to his 95th birthday.  If he is so willing to blow off games when this team HAS a chance to be important, then what to think of him when this team really IS on the other side of the mountain.

If/when we blow this thing up, Sheed will still have top trade value to contending teams.  His contract is not a burdon, nor will it be.

Whilst we're in a position to contend, i'd call him untouchable.

not to mention he is a very good passer in the low post. the 2nd unit has been very good recently.....it is the starters we have to worry about!  ???

Other than he just had his best month in Celtics Green on January. Of course, since we were losing, he was put under a microscope, but when you get down to it, overall it has been his best month with us. And remembered that he suffered an injury and had to miss some games during that stretch.

I'm curious as to why people forget to factor-in injuries when complaining about a player... is it simply because it makes you arguments easier to make?

It's true that Sheed has picked up his game for the last two games and it's great to see him go in the post everytime. He took threes also but they were wide open and usualy at the end of a possession so they were good looks.

He also played great defensivey and hit the clutch freebies so you can't complain about Sheed's latest production. This is why it would be foolish to trade him, the guy is too good in the post and on D. He will be much needed in the playoffs and you will see him playing like he did in these last two games.

Maybe the trade rumors have affected him, who knows... anyway, let's hope he keeps it up!

Good point OP. I think it is a combo of trade deadline and getting closer to crunch time. He has also gotten into shape as the season went on. He looks less doughy.

A side not here. How MADDENING must it have been for Portland/Detroit counting on this guy to deliver big minutes and big production. I remember in his prime in Portland how he was covered and i always thought it was exxagerated but it was spot on. He is unguardable one-on-one in the post now. Imagine when he was a plus athlete? Scary how good this guy could have been if he was wired a bit differently.

I really don't think trade rumors have anything to do with this resurgence.  My impression of Sheed is that he does not think there is any chance he would be traded, and would not be fazed by that stuff.

What I do think is we are seeing a combination of two things here.  First, I think Sheed realized (either on his own, or with the help of a teammate or two) that he needed to take it off cruise control, since the team is reeling so much.  And second, I think he has been working himself into shape throughout the year (much like Shaq always does), and he is just starting to really get his legs under him.

I know Sheed was shooting the ball better in January but I thought his best play came in the first two months of the season. I thought he was a lot more active + effective defensively and on the glass then.

He was also playing fewer minutes back then, right?

I was going to make a similar thread, Sheed has looked good past couple games. Too bad KG, Pierce and Perk are playing terrible along with Ray.
