What options do the Celtics have right now? Do you think Ray Allen is moved by the trade deadline?

Chad Ford  (1:25 PM)

Danny Ainge continues to maintain that a trade is unlikely. He's willing to move Ray Allen to get a young player back, but the guys he's pursuing -- Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, Andre Iguodala, etc -- aren't available for just an expiring deal (at least not yet). And I don't think the Celtics want to take on a horrific contract like Corey Maggette or Richard Hamilton. That's the problem. I know some GMs around the league think Boston is desperate. But after making some calls yesterday, I think they are content with just doing something small.

---Looks like someone is taking back their tweet from yesterday!!!

Indeed... hilarious, how is an "insider" he supposed to be credible when he says one thing one day and then the total opposite the day after?

Um, just to clarify, this was Ford's tweet yesterday:

Quote
"To quote one general manager who spoke with Ainge in the last 48 hours, "I get the feeling Boston's getting desperate."

He didn't claim Ainge was desperate, he was quoting another GM who was making that claim.

Why would he even post what this "GM" said then? It's like if he kept tweeting after every phone call...

This guy said Boston is desperate...

Now this other guys says they are not so desperate...

Oh wait this other GM says they are only kinda desperate....

This is what happens when you confuse actual reporting with tweeting. You are supposed to collect all the facts, form your opinion aned then report. Otherwise you get knee jerk reactions to one little tweet that really bears no weight at all.

Why does anyone confuse tweeting with reporting? I'm not.

Ford passed along the fact that a fellow GM thought Boston was getting desperate. That's not news, it's opinion.

I didn't like the quote either but I think you're being a little harsh. Considering the lightening rod of opinion that is Boston and LA, if Boston, one year removed from a championship is rumored to be getting desperate by an actual general manager of another NBA team..that's worth talking about.

Have you heard if the Thunder are trying to make any moves?
Chad Ford
  (1:45 PM)

They are doing the same thing they do every year, sitting back and waiting for someone desperate to come along. They have expiring contracts. They have two first round picks. They have young assets. They could do just about anything. But they are dealing from a position of strength. They don't have to do anything. But here's one deal I think they'd do. Take Nick Collison off their hands for an expiring contract and get one of their first round picks.

I do that, for sure. Scal and Tony Allen for Collison and a 1st? Sign me up.

Follow that up with Davis and Giddens for Augustin. You've now got backups at PG and PF/C. Done.

Imagine my chagrin as I say this but...

I don't want to trade Tony Allen.

Yeah I guess I am over reacting. I guess it is more like shame on me for valuing the little statement so much. When I read it I started panicking that we were going to do something stupid. I think alot of other people here felt the same way since the quote is on the front page of the blog.

I found this little personal confession interesting:

Quote
Ric (Bristol)

Do you like covering the trade deadline every year?
Chad Ford
  (1:51 PM)

Yes and No. It's exciting and there's a lot of energy there so that's cool. But no for a couple of reasons. One, everyone is lying to you this time of year. I've never been a big fan of that. Second, I hate that attitude so many GMs have toward trades right now. Too many of them believe the only good deal is a ridiculously lopsided deal. Trades where one team gets all the talent and gives up nothing but stiffs on expiring contracts is the new "great trade" Everyone wants Pau Gasol for nothing. Or Amare for nothing. Too many GMs are trying to destroy the other team that makes a deal. I miss the days when trades were basketball trades and not salary dumps. I can't wait for the new CBA to come along and put an end to some of this.

He then followed it up with this Q&A:

Quote
dave (indy)

Is there a chance the Pacers send Earl Watson to the Lakers for basicly nothing?
Chad Ford
  (1:52 PM)

Yes.

And then he removed that Q&A from the post thread. Strange.
