This incident with Howard illustrates how petty Shaq it. It also shows how Howard is a genuinely nice guy.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Yeah. Dwight Howard is definitely the more mentally stable of the two at this point. He might have the mind of a child, but it's a child focused on playing tough defense and winning basketball games.

Shaq is all about boosting the Shaq brand. Next, he will retroactively sue the estate of Christopher Reeves for claiming to be superman in a movie.

Just go you guys have a good hypothetical to compare this with.  This would be like Kevin Durant having the nickname 'The Truth.'  Tell me that wouldn't tick off Paul Pierce.

Durant is pretty awesome.

The thing is that Shaq has had literally dozens of nicknames over the year.  Pierce is known as the "Truth", Lebron as the "King", etc....

How many names is Shaq going to legitimately have a stanglehold on?  No one has really been calling Shaq "Superman" over the years.  Has anyone really been associating Shaq with "Superman"?  A few?  Clearly, not the majority like in the cases of Pierce & Lebron.

I've been a huge Shaq fan over the years but I think this is just a petty thing on his part.

Not to mention it was a terrible movie.

I've always thought Shaq was a complete jackass. A useful jackass at that, mainly when he focuses on bashing someone I also hate; he gets props for that. But overall, he's always been a complete big jackass. And a Laker; yuck!

I agree with you. Just because Shaq has a Superman tattoo doesn't give him full property and exclusivity of that nickname. I've never heard of Shaq as Superman but more as the Big Diesel, Big Shaqtus, Man of Steel, etc.

I really liked Shaq a few years ago but I can't stand him now. The guy is a punk, and the more we hear about him, the more we discover that he is not the good guy he seems to be (see his recent "feud" with Nash).

I'm starting to think that the biggest culprit in the Kobe/Shaq drama was Shaq and not Kobe (although he certainly played a big role).

Shaq has been doing this for years and he's doing an excellent job. He likes to play mind games with his competition, to try and get into their heads, to intimidate them.

And it's working, Shaq is clearly bothering Dwight.

I think DC comic should step in and demand royalities from which ever big man uses the nickname.

I find the whole ordeal pretty dumb myself as well.

I am pretty sure he said most of it to try and get under Howard's skin and get to Orlando in general.

Mind games, all mind games and some pettiness

Ironically, a name Shaq gave to Pierce.

Honestly, when was the last time Shaq looked like a "superman"? The big Shactus? Sure. I dunno what they'd call him in Cleveland....

"The Big Burning River"? "The Big Unemployment"? "The Big At Least We're Not Detroit"?

Or simply motivating him. Last game Dwight abused little Shaqi.

I remember Reggie Miller wearing a Superman shirt before big games. Does that mean he was Superman?

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.
