If it is true that Sacramento would trade Kenny Thomas and a prospect for Murphy that means the kings would have both Nocioni and Murphy that would be about 18 mil combined at the PF spot.

They would have to move Nocioni right? Martin and Nocioni for Ray and ray gets bought out?

or Ray to Indiana and Larry helps out Danny by buying him out ?

Update:

According to Marc Stein the Kings offered Jason Thompson and Kenny Thomas for Murphy, and the Pacers are just waiting it out for possible better offers. Would the Kings really do this? I love Murphy as a scorer and good player, but Thompson is much younger and also pretty productive.

My feeling on this is that the Kings like Troy Murphy but will be unwilling to pay the price needed to get him.

I don't think anything comes of this.

Saw this over on the Kings board on RealGm. What the hell is Sacramento doing? They are going to give up a young big man with a lot of potential for Murphy?

That'd be a decent pull for Indy.  Gives them more salary to shave off the books after this season.

That team will probably ride out another year in salary cap hell but they're setting themselves up quite nicely for '11 (depending on the CBA).

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
As a season ticket holder for one of the terrible teams referenced here (Pacers), I think this would be a great haul for Indiana. My question is: why would Sac want Murphy? He's not going to do much for that team, and can't win games on his own.

That said, a core of Granger/Thompson/Hibbert with Rush/Hansbrough/2010 Lotto Pick would be really interesting for the Pacers. It would probably be enough to get me to throw away more money on this horrible, horrible team.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

If they win the lotto and get John Wall that would be amazing.

The only way this trade makes sense for Sacramento is if they then trade Martin and Nocioni for expirings(Ray). This would give them about 20 mil in cap space. Murphy would be a very solid 3rd option if they can sign a max level player to pair with Evans?

I really think the c's could get involved in this (maybe just hopeful thinking?)

What's Larry waiting for? I don't know how anyone could turn down a big expiring deal and a stud in Jason Thompson for Murphy. I think Thompson's going to be a very good player in the NBA, without a doubt.

I hope this deal happens. Then the Cavs won't be able to trade for Murphy and they won't get Jamison either because Washington wants to keep him and if they had to move him they wouln't trade him to Cleveland because of their "rivalry".

Do it Larry!!

I don't believe that report for a single second.

Indiana would jump at that offer if it was actually made.

Agree 100%.  This trade is an Indiana wet dream.

It looks that the Kings' interest in Murphy is legit, according to this report :

Quote
As of my last trade blog post, I hadn't been told that the notion of Indiana-forward-Troy Murphy-to-the-Kings was legit. That has changed, however, as sources close to the Pacers say there is significant Kings interest in the 29-year-old forward.

And while I had alluded to a possible three-team deal sending Kevin Martin to Dallas, Josh Howard and his $10.8 million expiring contract to Indiana and Murphy to Sacramento, I've been told that the Kings are pursuing a straight up deal centered around the expiring contract of Kenny Thomas ($8.5 million).

Obviously this trade scenario isn't the same that the OP described but if the Kings are really interested in Murphy (and it seems they are), then Indiana will probably do the deal in a heartbeat.

I fully agree! The Cavs would be up a creek without a paddle.
