I've seen Martin play and unlike Ray, Martin can create his own shot when he has the ball in his hands.  He also shoots a great mid-range jumper.

Has everyone forgotten that Ray was horrible in almost every playoff game the past two years?  I'm serious, outside of 1 LA (which was a blowout anyway) game and those Chicago OT specials, he was well below his average.  In fact during our championship run he almost cost us the Atlanta & Detroit series'.  And against Orlando last year (which we lost in 7..).. he was bad.  Am I the only one who remembers this?

Are you kidding? Ray was absolutely useless in the Cleveland series but he saved us in the Detroit series, and we would never have won the championship if he didn't play great against the Lakers like he did (he shot 50% from 3 in that series, was the player who made big buckets in the game 4 comeback and played all 48 minutes of that game), because KG was playing like crap and Pierce was inconsistent.

Ray deserved MVP considerations for the Finals, so you really must have a short or biased memory...

He also saved us in the Bulls series. I agree he was not very effective in the Orlando series but he was dealing with a hamstring and Orlando did a great job defensively on him (like Cleveland in 2008).

I made this to break in down. I'd also like to add that KM is on a very decent contract as long as his injuries stay in control.

ray's shot is a lot prettier, but it's been losing its effectiveness, even in the playoffs as we've seen.

if we can get a young aggressive martin in his prime to run with rondo, then we can't pass it up.

Martin's ability to get to the line is also a valuable asset. He can do something VERY similar to what PP is doing against Peja tonight.

I'm sorry but no, at this point in their respective careers, the title of this post is false.

If Ray was on the Kings he would be getting better stats than Martin.  If Martin came to the Celtics, he would be lost. There would be lower production coming out of the shooting guards spot.  Ray does great with the odd circumstance, Martin or any other quality player would have a hard time fitting in.
Celt's should hold off on trading Ray.  Sign him to a discount after the season(he already acknowledged he would take a cut). Use his $19.5M slot to take a shot at an elite player.
The Celts would be better off. You get a to keep Ray and get a good player in Free Agency.

Ummm ... Martin scores without volume - helpful trait on a good team ... I do not advocate trading Ray for Martin on its own, but 34% 3 point shooting Ray - absolutely

And the Celts would not have that slot ...

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Martin with the looks that Ray has been getting from 3 would shoot at least 42%.

I'm not sure if Martin is as good a shooter off screens or off the catch, but his set shot is money.

I agree, He's also spent his whole career as the only real option... up until this year where he's with a PG who is rookie scorer.

With the spacing of this team, and the looks Rondo can set him up with... he could be ridiculous.

Well said, and thanks for saving me the time, Drucci.  While I'm not opposed to trading Ray if the right deal comes along, there's been more than a bit of revisionist history around here regarding the '08 playoffs.  The Cleveland series was a mess...after that, not so much - and like you said, I would second that there he staked a legitimate claim to the '08 Finals MVP, though I had no problem with it going to the Captain.
