Gary Tanguay apologizes for not understanding the cap

When he reported the idea didn't he say it came from some source of something. I think the initial report will get more attention than this. We will probably still have plenty of people thinking we can snatch Joe Johnson. Tanguay's ignorance has already been spread.

I know that when he was recieving texts explaining why it wasn't possible, he said that he "checked with a source within the Celtics, who said they could resign Pierce if he opts out".

I don't see it happening.  Tanguay wouldn't be Tanguay if he didn't shoot off at the mouth without knowing what he's talking about.

BTW, he mentions that he used the "current salary cap number of $60 million".  However, the current cap is $57.7 million I believe.  But that's nitpicking

The Hawks fans are poor but JJ isn't leaving a title contender over a lack of fans showing up for regular season games.

I agree.  He will leave because the Hawks don't want to pay him as a max player, and other contenders want him "more".

Obviously, this is purely speculation, but this is the scenario I can see leading the C's to getting Johnson.  Not that he is shooting his way out of town, but that the Hawks are strapped for money, and feel they are better off going in a different direction.

If they decide they don't want to commit the money, and years to Johnson, they could decide Ray is a decent, short-term solution, resigned for half as much, and combined with another player or two, like Davis, and maybe something like a resigned Tony Allen.

Like what?  What teams are willing to pay Johnson, would Johnson be willing to go to, and have a high quality SG who can step in, without costing them a fortune?  I am sure there are a few teams, but not that many.

Right now, it is all speculation, but I think there is a scenario, where the C's could have the package to get Johnson.

I think Rick Sund will pony up in the end. Just like he did with Ray Allen.

The Hawks have been so successful this season. Neither management or ownership will want to break that core up. And there's no way to replace JJ if he leaves in free agency so it's a doubly troubling loss.

Anyway, Joe Johnson will have a lot offers this summer. I think he'll be the fourth most sought after FA after Bron, Wade and Bosh.

We'll just have to wait and see who is traded at the deadline and who isn't.  I would expect Amare Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer to be in play this Summer, just to name two.

And if the Hawks want Ray Allen, they can probably get him for the MLE.

Hard to imagine any scenario where Johnson is s-and-t'd to the Cs without Rondo going back.
