People in the media are making way too much out of Joe Johnson's comments on the lack of fan support in Atlanta.
That team could be 45-0 right now and they'd be struggling for fan support.
The Hawks fans are poor but JJ isn't leaving a title contender over a lack of fans showing up for regular season games.
I agree. He will leave because the Hawks don't want to pay him as a max player, and other contenders want him "more".
Obviously, this is purely speculation, but this is the scenario I can see leading the C's to getting Johnson. Not that he is shooting his way out of town, but that the Hawks are strapped for money, and feel they are better off going in a different direction.
Yes, but the Celtics will be over the cap this Summer no matter what they do, and JJ won't play for the MLE. He's leaving the Hawks, but he isn't coming here unless it's for Pierce or Garnett.
Sorry, should have been more clear. The only way he could come here would be for a sign and trade for Ray Allen.
If they decide they don't want to commit the money, and years to Johnson, they could decide Ray is a decent, short-term solution, resigned for half as much, and combined with another player or two, like Davis, and maybe something like a resigned Tony Allen.
