I was browsing boston.com and the herald and theres a couple articles that sound as if words around, on the deadline Ray will be gone. It first seemed just rumors about Ray but not anymore

Ray is gone. Not yet.

Is Ray hurt?
Does Ray love Boston?

Ray will work on a deal to stay here.

Ray has hit the biggest shots in the big 3 era, and should stay.
Fans love him, not a headache like Sheed.

The next time the Celtics play a game at the TD Garden, they could be a significantly different team.

How does this matter? We're talking about winning championships, and not being loyal to good players that have helped us in the past.

Everyone is on the trade Ray bandwagon... I doubt there's an impending trade in the works, this is just a whole lot of wishful thinking by Celtics fans who want to see change for the sake of it in addition to sports writers who have nothing else to talk about except what's "in."

I stand by my belief that Ray Allen stays in Boston this year and even takes a paycut to come back next year.

You are more correct than not with the trade just for a trade concept with most fans but, the Ray deal if for the right pieces could set them up for a nice future with his 18m contract.

I really think we are in for a roller coaster ride. These next 8 days. I mean things have really surfaced as of late. Perhaps its not Allen that is gone though i am not hoping that is the case, but people like Big baby and significant pieces could be gone from this team.

I can understand wanting to trade Ray to find some younger talent, improve the team... what I don't understand is how many people seem to just want Ray out of here. Even though he hasn't been accurate from 3-point land, you people do realize that overall he's shooting above his career average right?

People want a scapegoat for this team's struggles. Its easier to say trade Ray and fix it, than acknowledge that KG/Pierce have also declined and that's as much of a problem.

(House's struggles have also been a big issue)

Seconded. I still want Ray to remain a Celtic this season and beyond.

I honestly think Eddie House has as good a chance of being moved as Ray.  You can't play the two of them together because neither one can guard anyone at this point.  And of the two, Ray is by far the better defender (which obviously isn't saying a whole lot)

If Eddie is not making his shots, he's useless.  And he hasn't been making enough of them all season.

I think that's patently unfair. There are many rational people entertaining Allen trade ideas who acknowledge that ALL of the big 3 have declined. However, the options then become: Watch the team slowly deteriorate until rebuilding in 2012 (end of KG's contract) or make a trade. If you go the second route, Ray is the most expedable and desirable commodity of the team: he can still play and is an expiring deal, and most potential trade partners are not looking to contend but looking to create cap space. In a vacuum, one wouldn't necessarily trade Ray before Pierce or KG; but looking at the market, he's the expiring deal.
