At first I wasn't hesitant to part with Perk, but then I started thinking of his upcoming contract and the likelihood of our team likely setting itself up for a FA splash in the summer of 12. If we trade Perk then we don't have to deal with his new contract and the dollars it will command. That said, we would have only Rondo & AI under contract with hopes of landing Durant or someone else during free agency.
Something like this could work...
Boston Trades: RA, Perk, Scalabrine, and a 1st (2011)
Philly Trades: AI, Dalembert, Kapono, and a 1st (2013)
2010-11 Roster (players under contract):
KG, PP, Dalembert, Rondo, AI
Sheed, BBD, Walker, MLE player...Look to re-sign Daniels to a 2 yr deal...try to re-sign House and/or TA to the vet minimum. If that's not possible, then we look for other cheaper alternatives to round out the roster. We also would have a huge chunk of expiring contracts in Dalembert, BBD, and Kapono. We could trade any combination of those players for a contract no longer than 2 yrs and not running past the 2012 season. Also, trading away our pick next yr. serves a dual purpose. One, it helps sweeten the deal for Philly. And two, it doesn't add to our cap for 2012.
2011-12 Roster (players under contract):
KG, PP (?), Sheed, Rondo, AI
Daniels & perhaps whichever player we acquired for the Dalembert/Kapono/BBD expirings.
Summer of 2012:
Only AI and Rondo under contract. The only thing that could impact this is the PP contract. Hopefully, he signs a deal where it's backloaded and with an absurdly low cap number for the 2012-13 season.
