He didn't play at the end of the Orlando game because he sat down in foul trouble, and then did not come back because Davis was very effective on both sides of the ball, and Doc didn't want to mess with it.  I think it's kind of the same thing as when Doc leaves Wallace in there, he does not want to have someone in (or someone else, other than Rondo), who cannot make defenses pay for leaving him wide open from 15 feet (or deeper), but in yesterdays case, it was Davis, because he was playing much better than Wallace.

This is especially important against the Magic, since if you put Perk in there, it gives Howard carte blanche to roam around the paint, and block shots, but if he has to cover someone like Davis, KG, or Wallace, it makes him at least take an extra step or two out of the lane.

hmmm....interesting Chris.  So the first half didn't work out well when Perk played the whole half and shut Howard down?  Didn't Howard have 14 points in the second half?  Could Perk have been helpful there?

And some of it against Perk.

I would have liked to see Perk more in the 4th quarter as well but the coach made a decision to go with Baby.

7 of the points were against Perk in the 3rd. 4 of them were against Sheed. The other 3 were ft's late in the game when the game was all but wrapped up.

Yes but we know Perk is one of the best post defenders in the league and perfect for guarding Howard.  Howard even says he has the more trouble against Perk than anyone else in the league.  Strange to not play him in the 4th quarter.

I thought he was injured...still holding out hope that this could be the case because otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Maybe he did something wrong in the third (besides pick up his 4th foul)?

You have to admit, the strategy we used did not work.  And when Perk came out of the game, it was tied.

Which means he was in there while the Celtics blew an 11 point lead.

I would have like to see Perk in the 4th, but the Magic run started with him on the court.  Not his fault, but it did happen that way.

but why change the lineup that did so well in the first half?  Ok, Orlando went on a run, as you say, but why would that change your strategy so much that your starting center doesn't play in the 4th quarter?  Especially because one of the main reasons Perk is great is because he can guard centers like Howard.  Don't want to dwell on it too much, but it was strange, you have to admit.

I didn't think it was that strange, davis was playing well and perk wasn't, due to never getting in rhythm with the foul trouble.

Howard got a good chunk of those points in the second half off Perk.  That is what got him in foul trouble.

And I think we have seen enough of this Celtics team this year to know that what happens in the first half has absolutely no bearing on what happens in the second half.  If a guy is playing well in the second half, I say, by all means, ride him, because we have not seen much of that lately.

If thats the case (and it isn't), Perkins isn't the player i thought he was.

In fact, if one 35 year old bench player's opinion and demeanor is affecting the other 14 this dramatically and changing the way they play basketball, none of them deserve to win another title, because they are mentally weak.

Don't you remember Perk joking and hugging the officials before this season?

As far as I'm concerned, and no offense to anyone who feels this way, but I didn't think it was worth my time to reply to anyone who honestly felt Perk has done this or that this season simply because of Sheed when Perk was just the same last year. Perk was tied for 6th in the league in techs (12) last year. Urban legends ftl.

Tai, didn't you get the blog memo?

any effort/ consistency problems are all wallace's fault, and logic be [dang]ed  ::)

kidding aside, This teams problems have little, if nothing to do with sheed's supposed attitude problem spreading throughout the locker room.

they have to do with being a year older, coasting, and most importantly with our sudden alergic reaction to crashing the boards.
