The good news... Rondo's shooting seems to be improved.  I don't want to jinx him, but he seems to be gaining a lot of confidence in his shot.  This month he's 4-5 on three pointers.  Tonight felt like the first game I've ever watched Rondo and felt like he wasn't a total liability shooting the basketball.  Last month he shot 31% from three (5 of 16).  Not great, but 31% is better than what Sheed is shooting from three this year.   And honestly, I can say with a straight face that I have just as much confidence in Rondo hitting a three as I do with Sheed at this point.  Is Rondo's three point range coming along quicker than his mid range game?... Not sure.  His free throw shooting is still pretty weak.

But you gotta give him props for how he's been playing lately.  In his last 5 games he's averaging 18.8 points, 11.6 assists, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 steals on 58% shooting.   Simply outstanding.  He's been the lone bright spot of this miserable stretch.   He's been our most consistent player this season and has easily been the best statistical player on the Celts this year.

I just checked out the NBA efficiency list.  http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp  ... Rondo is #23 in the league.  7th best guard.   In the East, the only guard putting up better numbers is Dwayne Wade.  Wow.  Seems like this team is becoming more and more Rondo's squad.  Either his teammates need to step up... or he needs some new teammates.

  • Rondo = Good
It's nice that our best player is the youngest one, at least.  It's too bad you can't build a championship team around a great point guard.  At least, it's really tough to do so.

Rondo's the best player on the team at this point, which is part of why I don't think yesterday's closed-door meeting being called by the Decrepit Three is going to be too helpful.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Rondo's shooting lately. He's consistently been one of the bright spots the past few weeks. Sometimes the only one. And as happy as I am to see him thriving it is bittersweet that he is often these days our best player on the floor even with the Big 3 present.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

His shooting has shown major improvement. Unfortunately, his foul shoot still stinks at 59 percent. Mind-boggling to me that he is not better. Dwight Howard shoots a higher free throw percentage than Rondo.

He shot 38% in November. That drags the numbers down. He looks to be about a .625 FT shooter at the moment based on the last few months.

What's this about a closed-door meeting?  Was that in an article I missed?

Remember, though, he started out 1-13 on foul shots. His foul shooting is improving as his shooting has improved. He's hit about 67% since he missed 2 at the end of the Clippers game.

.625 free throw shooting is still well below where a point guard could be. Other than that, the guy is a budding superstar.

Rome wasn't built in a day. You'd have been happy with the way he's shooting now back in November. Now you're unhappy with how he's shooting now. He's definitely shown improvement.

Agreed -- given the level he has taken other parts of his game, he is allowed time to work on free throw shooting  ;D

I have to say that the only reason I love watching the Celtics nowadays is because of Rondo...he is just so fun to watch. If only Rayray is shooting better than 34% then his assist numbers would have been atleast 12 a game. Allen has been really atrotious lately, even his drives to the basket I would cringe because he rarely pass and all it leads to is a turnover...allthe  more reason why im all for trading Ray. I very much feel that our big three will never come back to their 2008 form.

Saw a sweet rondo jumper go in from a ray allen pass. I liked his posture moving forward while shooting and following through. Most importantly there was no hesitation before he shot the ball

I think rondo may not know he is a better spot shooter than a dribble then shoot type of guy

did he score any other jumpers tonight?

Since he's improved his form it seems as if the only thing keeping him back is confidence. He's such a pass first guy that he'll probably only take jumpers with <5 seconds on the clock. But i'll take that because he's making them.

This was also amazing was his night at the FT line.

Way to go Rondo.
