I'm curious if this reporter understands the CBA that well.  I mean, Chicago could just decline to extend a qualifying offer; it's not mandated.

Whats the percentage that his "proposed deal" was from a Trade Ideas Thread very much like the one we have right here? Higher or lower than his knowledge of the CBA?

There are different rules for rookies coming off the second year of their deal (Giddens) versus players coming off their fourth year (Thomas). 

This summer, Chicago will have until June 30 to decide whether they want to extend Thomas a qualifying offer.  Presumably, they won't do so.

Yeah, that report makes no sense; trading Thomas by himself saves the Bulls no money.  In fact, it would limit the Bulls flexibility somewhat, because right now they at least have the option of including Thomas in a sign-and-trade next summer.

This story is missing a piece.  If there's any accuracy to the report, it's that the Bulls are willing to package Thomas in a deal with Hinrich or Salmons for expiring contracts.

If that's the case then we should be all over that. Ray is great, but Hinrich,Salmons AND Tyrus!? How could that NOT make us better Add Salmons to our starting lineup, then Hinrich backups up Rondo and Tyrus eats BBDs minutes b/c of his athleticism and ability to rebound/block shots. Add in Giddens and that gives them 20 mil of expirings

We should wait until the day of the deadline and offer a combo platter of expirings Kirk or Salmons + Tyrus Thomas.  Maybe throw BBD or a 1st rounder if necessary.

Scal + House + Giddens + 2011 1st for Kirk + Tyrus Thomas, for example, would be a good deal.  Chicago might bite if they have no other options on the table.

I agree this would be the way to go. Don't trade Ray , but BBD + expirings with a draft pick might land the C's Hinrich or Salmons and Ty thomas.
