I've been seeing all these trades with ray allen involved and I just think there's no chance they would ever happen. Except for the ellis trade, because he's that talented AND young. Danny is not Rick Pitino. He's not gonna think Tyrus Thomas will all of a sudden be able to make a consistent jumperbecause he's wearing a celtic jersey. That trade would nake us worse for this year. We have to be playing extremely poor to break this team up. Any trade has to be a clear upgrade in talent. Heinrich is not even close to ray in talent.Thomas is a pretty cool sweetner but i'd take quality over quantity every time.
Danny won't make anything resembling a sideways move. It's just not gonna happen. The best team in the west right now still looks weak down low on defense sometimes and artest is ready to pop at any moment. nobody is unbeatable. I think the big question is just whether we make a maggette type acquisition. Will Danny make some kind of deal tat could hurt future deals but make us better now?Wyc sounds ready to spend.

Good points.  A lot of the speculation is based on Danny taking big risks, but there are limits.  You're probably right.

I hope Wyc is really ready to spend.  Taking on a bad contract in order to significantly upgrade our bench would really help us out.  The next couple of years shouldn't matter with this team.  I'm just hoping the window is still open now; I have no illusions about it being open after this year.

Ray's contract is the one significant tradeable asset this team has. If Danny feels he can get a better, younger talent (such as Martin, Iguodala, or Ellis) while improving or maintaining this teams ability to contend I think Ray is gone. Moves such as Ray for a package of role players probably doesn't happen though.

What makes you think Doc or Danny would bring in Thomas for his jumper?

He'd play the Leon Powe role on this team, spot minutes at the 4. If he doesn't get offensive rebounds and put backs he'd be sent right back to the bench.

I think there is a 99% chance nothing happens - I agree.  That's why I think Ray deals will involve something like Kevin Martin (good) or Monta Ellis (less good).  Ray won't be dealt for sideways progress - he will be dealt for someone who can help the post-KG incarnation of the team.

Completely agree, I hope they are ready to spend, too. Significantly upgrading our bench with a bonus of having a serviceable replacement for Ray who can make the open shot and who can D better (leads his team in steals)is a deal that if it presents itself that we have to accept. The following (which has been discussed ad nauseam on this board, but I think is the one, keeps the window open as long as KG is here:

Ray + filler for Hinrich, Salmons and Ty Thomas.

Starters: RR, Salmons, PP,KG, Perk

Bench:::: Hinrich, TA/Marquis, Ty Thomas/MD, BBD, Sheed WOW!

Is Salmons as good as Ray? NO, but what he can fetch makes us deep and versatile for the playoffs, even with shorter rotations. What he can fetch makes us better. Unless Ty Thomas blows up into something big, No, this doesn't give us a bridge/core of the future, but it sure makes us more dangerous this year and more competitive the next two.

Throw in House if he isn't filler and that's a helluva bench

I agree, mostly because it's very unlikely there's a deal involving Ray Allen to be made out there. I don't think there's an objection in principle from Danny, he'd pull the trigger on some trades.

Eh, I'm not wild about the Chicago trade (any of the proposed ideas).

To me either we trade our expiring bench guys for a guy like Corey Maggette or Kirk Hinrich and eat his contract in order to have a good team this year, or else we find a way to trade Ray for Iguodala or Martin + filler.  Anything short of those kinds of moves is not worth a trade, in my opinion.

If we can't pull off a good trade we can still hope to get somebody like Keyon Dooling or Raja Bell off the waiver wire.

Tyrus Thomas is a problem child.  He would make us long for Sidney Wicks to return.  God only knows what Big Baby would do on a night out with his old friend.  Forget his jumpshot.
He doesn't have one.   Read all that's been written about him in Chicago.  And recognize that some of it is actually true.

but don't you guys think we'd be a better team if we were able to get maggette w/o dropping ray than if we did the chicaago deal for heinrich and thomas?
