If I had one message for Danny Ainge, it would be this: don't do anything foolish or stupid that's going to run this franchise into the ground for years to come.

It's apparent this team is starting to fall apart before our eyes...  So, does Danny send Ray Allen to Chicago for Hinrich and Salmons?  If so, it's the stupidest deal he's ever made.

...and it will destroy this franchise.

Ray Allen is worth more...and if the idea is to HELP Chicago, then it's also ridiculous.  At a time when the Celtics will be in decline, to help another EC team be one on the rise (ie. space to sign D. Wade)?  Sorry, dumb move...

Danny already gift-wrapped a championship for Detroit when he helped facilitate (oddly enough) the Rasheed Wallace deal (from the Hawks, I believe?) a few years ago.  Yes, we were not in a position to contend, but it did give Detroit a few more years of success - had Danny not stepped in it might not have happened.

I truly believe the window is closing for this team.  If Danny strengthens other teams (ie. cap space) for a short-term fix he's done us fans a terrible disservice...

Be smart, Danny...

I'm sure that DA is taking all of this into consideration.  He seems to have his eyes on the prize for the here and now so long as fate doesn't screw us out of it with more and more injuries.

Interesting position, so would your beef be dealing with an Eastern Conference team? I mean, if the Celtics could make a deal that makes the team better now and in the future wouldn't you do that?

Also, cap space does not always translate into a player of value. Teams with cap space are still at a disadvantage because they can't offer that 6th year to a free agent with Bird rights.

sounds kinda old-school, but i don't like dealing in the same conference.  i know everybody is all "chummy" today, but it's best to send a guy somewhere where you only see him twice a year.  so, yes...that's my beef.

but my other beef is that hinrich and salmons do NOT make this team better.  it seems to be the prevalent rumor, and i DON'T like it.  why do we need to receive two mediocre players for ray allen?  yes, ray is in decline, but he's an expiring contract - don't hand that away for these two...

Hey no disagreement here, I'm not a fan of such a move...

I would however deal with certain Eastern Conference teams. For instance, if Washington were to offer Caron Butler and Mike Miller for Ray Allen I think that would make a lot of sense for this club. Both have short term contracts with Miller expiring at the end of the year.

I actually thinks it's a pretty even trade.  Especially since it feels a gaping hole at the backup PG.  I would prefer Monta Ellis but, this deal would be a nice alternative.  Salmons along with a healthy Maquis ( if ever ) would more than make up for anything Ray is able to give.

my biggest concern is that mediocrity is a hard rut to get out of...  danny took a mediocre team, tore it apart...built a young team that had no chance (the Minnesota Timberceltics are still awful).  created a championship team, but the problem now is that kevin mchale is employed by TNT, not as a GM.

He's in somewhat unfamiliar territory, and his next move could be the one that ramps this team up a notch, or could end up destroying it.

personally, i'd stay put and watch the waiver wire...i've thought this over long and hard, and i think we're better with ray and a couple pieces rather than trading him off for the scrubs i've been reading about.

i don't want to be sitting here in late April reading the 100th post entitled, "Should have kept Ray..."

He did it to gain a 1st round draft pick. Which team won the title when we were rebuilding isn't really important.

oh, i get the idea that we'll have these Benjamin Button rewind moments in which I'll get all the details about how Danny had this grand plan that he knew would come together all along... :)

personally, i don't think it will be so simple for him the next time 'round...

With Rajon Rondo as our starting PG for the foreseeable future I don't understand this Monta Ellis talk. Ellis is a 6'3" SG and can't hit an outside shot. Watching Rondo and Ellis in a half court set come playoff time would be torture. You can't pair these two, they're uncomplimentary.

  • Rondo = Good
Who cares who we're helping?

Our goal right now is to win this year.  If we can't do that, our goal is to not be in rebuilding mode for the next ten years.

Even if we are a contender this year and maybe next year, we definitely won't be the year after that and for a reasonable amount of years after that.  So who cares if we help the Bulls to become a contender in the meantime?  They won't be stealing any championships from us.  If it means the Cavs or the Lakers don't dominate the league, I'm all for it.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Good point the deals that worked out were luck and Detroit received a championship because of DA...

thank god danny made that deal with detroit. IF not the lakers would have one more title and we'd be hearing how this year they'd be looking to tie us.uggh. i'm gonna puke thinking about it.the lakers MUST be stopped this year. if paul DID go down for the year and kg was battered i'd immediately be checking if we could help another contender like cleveland while still helping ourselves.Anyone but the lakers. We must be the #1 bball franchise. I never want to know differently.

Or you're not very familiar with Ellis.  He may not be a 3 pt shooter ( who cares ) but, he's more than adaquate with his mid range jumper.  He's also very good at getting into lane and scoring layups, which I actually prefer to 3 pt bombs.  Also just him being here and not Ray will enhance the defense.
