What about calling up sacramento and trying to do kevin martin and 10 mill and kenny thomas 8.5 mill. Martin is signed for 5 years so he will help us down the line also and thomas comes off the books and wil give us rebounding help which we def need. Ray allen makes 19 mill so sacramento still gains 10 million off the books.
What do you guys think?

While Martin is a good player, he is not a great player, and I don't see why he should be "out of the Celtics reach," especially if Sac is in financial trouble. Martin is just a shooter. That's it. He's an average to bad defensive player. He has trouble creating his own shot. And he takes plays off. So far he hasn't played well with Evans, and Evans is the far superior player. If I'm Sac, I would probably part with Martin (if they need financial relief). And I wouldn't expect to get back anything more than an expiring. Martin can score points from shooting the ball. The guy is more Anthony Morrow than Ray Allen circa 2003.

I think you don't give K-Mart enough credit.  He's one of the best players in the league at getting to the line (where he's money) and he's a decent rebounder / passer for his size and position.  He's also very quick and agile - very good at finishing inside with a layup (though not a dunk).

K-Mart's main weaknesses are his suspect defense (which might improve if he were on a team where he didn't have to shoulder the offensive load) and his tendency to get injured.  He's not a superstar, but at his best he's a fringe All-Star, and I think he could be an All-Star if put in the right situation (like Gerald Wallace, Zach Randolph).

I pretty much agree with everything you said. But I guess I don't find him to be that quick. I mean, right now, he's no where near as quick as Ray Allen was when he was in his prime. Like I said, I see Martin as a better version of Anthony Morrow. He has had seasons where he scored a lot of points on putrid teams. But his offensive game can be seriously limited, especially if the defense focuses in on him. He's still a fringe All-Star; I agree with that. But I guess I don't find him to be so good where the Kings would demand a potential future All-Star caliber player for him in return.

I guess my point is this: A deal like Allen plus a future first rounder for Martin, Nocioni, and a filler doesn't seem like that big of a steal for the Celtics.

I know getting Ellis is an unlikely scenario. But I am going to say it now: I would love to land Monta in a trade. I love this guy's game. I love the intensity, the passion, and the fire. Plus, Rondo and Ellis would be the most exciting back court--ever.

Yeah, it's high risk and a high reward move. Chemistry would be a gamble. But at this point I am willing to take that risk. We need a guy who can score points. Ellis would change the dynamic on this team; possibly for the good and possible for the bad.

In the fourth quarter against the Lakers, when we were walking the ball up the court, Ellis would have been the man flying up and down for layups. I'll admit: he's not the greatest shooter. But he can hit the mid range shot, and he can be pretty streaky.

If you asked me about adding Ellis three months ago (heck, even two weeks ago), I would have told you, "Are you crazy!" "Why would I want little Iverson Jr. on this team?" But now I think we could use a player like Monta, even at the expense of Ray Ray.

I suppose it's just a pipe dream. But Ellis is the player I most want. He's the type of guy who could inject some life into this sun dried team. His intensity for the game is matched by few playing today, and he has all the tools to be a solid defensive player (against point guards and small two guards). So put me on board for Ellis.

Looking at every single team and what trade might work i found only two teams that would be willing to aquire allen and for the celtics at least to get something worthwhile in return

1.) Detroit has a problem imo having Gordon and Rip Hamilton play the same position. On top of that they have Rodney Stuckey who imo is a SG more than PG and also is due a nice increase in salary next season i believe.

I would love to get Rip Hamilton for Ray Allen swap. (doubt they trade Gordon)

2). Denver - George Karl has a history with RAy Allen and i'm sure he would love to have him gearing towards the playoffs. The celtics could easily ask and receive a nice young prospect like Arron Affalo but Denver doesn't have anyone else to trade us for salary matching purpose. Maybe Afflalo, Anderson, Balkman, Cash for Allen?

I'd love to get RIP though who would reunite with Rasheed.

We'd need to get    Lawson, Ty and but Denver doesn't have any salary to go after RAY>

I thought Karl and Allen had bad blood from their Milwaukee days.

The Kings trading away Martin in a salary dump is an extremely unlikely scenario, isn't it?

By extremely unlikely to you mean 0% chance of it happening?  In that case, you are correct.

Now, they might use him to get rid of other salaries, but they are going to also ask for significant value in return in addition to that.

Not necessarily...with the state of the economy in Vegas the Maloofs are definitely trying to cut expenses. It's a poorly kept secret that they really want to bring the Kings to Sin City. It's also well publicized that the mayor here has made a huge push for a arena to be built to house a professional sports team. Back when we hosted the All Star game, Harrahs and AEG had a proposal for a 20,000 seat facility that would be located one block off the Strip. Unfortunately it's in a state of limbo now with the way credit and funding has tightened up. Now with the commissioner softening his stance on the betting of NBA games in the sportsbooks, it wouldn't surprise me if Sacramento tries to get rid of some their big contracts to make a run for here in a few years.

your right. I forgot and thought Allen had a good time with the bucks when he first started.

I guess best would be to try to get Rip Hamilton and his contract for Allen.

I think the goal is to win for another year or two. Rip is done.
