S.U.M.,

I understand that completely.  It was a pipe dream:-)) Can anyone come up with a 3 or 4 team trade that would help us unload Allen and pick up Gay??

Smitty77

Considering how they've been playing, there's NO WAY the Grizzlies trade away any of their starters.

Griz are finally playing really good basketball and I agree
they will look to add to what they have to make a playoff push, that's if they are smart.

But to Rudy Gay, he is definately a great, great young player.
I would love to have him in a Celtics uniform!

We need a smart trade that takes us this season and into the next 2-3 yrs.  It's not often we have expiring deals of once high-caliber players coming off the Celtics books.

I am sure, after Ray Allen missed the go-ahead jumper against the Lakers, Danny was on the phone drawing up interest in his veteran.

We can't have a reinactment of what happened to this team in 1987.  Tough lessons learned.

Ray and Big Baby for Gomes, Brewer, Brian Cardinal and Mark Blount's expiring contracts (please not that i don't intend on Blount ever suiting up in green, he can carry water for all i care.)

Gomes is an upgrade over big baby, and can fill the 3 or 4 positions. Brewer can fill the 2 or 3 if needs be, and is a good, athletic and long defender. We can use him now and in the future.

As a few others have alluded, if the C's are looking for a younger wing roughly comparable to Ray and an expiring contract, the deal that makes the most sense is Ray and a 1st for Butler, Miller and maybe one more small contract.  Saves the Wizards money this year, while clearing the 1st step in their rebuilding process.  They might insist on us taking Jamison, but I'd want them to take back Sheed in that case.

Doc's always loved Miller and I think he'd be our main MLE target anyway.

How many of you would puke if Ainge went for a sign-and-trade of Ray Allen after the season, with the Wizards, unable to void the big contract, trading Gilbert Arenas for Ray Allen, Big Baby, and whatever else is necessary to balance salaries, with Washington willing to overpay Ray in the short term to get a good, upstanding citizen while they figure out how to rebuild?

I realize that this is big news considering the way the Celts are playing recently, but don't you think this is just everyday phone conversations between GM's? I would think the GM's around the league make calls and talk about players all the time, but little usually done about it.

Looking at every single team and what trade might work i found only two teams that would be willing to aquire allen and for the celtics at least to get something worthwhile in return

1.) Detroit has a problem imo having Gordon and Rip Hamilton play the same position. On top of that they have Rodney Stuckey who imo is a SG more than PG and also is due a nice increase in salary next season i believe.

I would love to get Rip Hamilton for Ray Allen swap. (doubt they trade Gordon)

2). Denver - George Karl has a history with RAy Allen and i'm sure he would love to have him gearing towards the playoffs. The celtics could easily ask and receive a nice young prospect like Arron Affalo but Denver doesn't have anyone else to trade us for salary matching purpose. Maybe Afflalo, Anderson, Balkman, Cash for Allen?

I'd love to get RIP though who would reunite with Rasheed.

Why Ray?!? There are so many more players on this team who are much more expendable than Ray ... this guy shoulkd retire as a Celtic, along with Paul and KG. Mui estupido. Sehr schlecht.

The improved play of Tony Allen and the combined slide in Rays shooting probably have the Celtics worrying that his legs are going. Also losing all three big "measuring stick" games hasnt helped. I dont believe Danny wanted to do this but was backed into a corner.

Perk is not on the same planet as Amare.
Perk lives on planet defense, while Amare lives on planet offense.

Perk is so overrated it makes me want to puke.

Guys. Let's all calm down a little bit. Even though Danny may be shopping Ray it doesn't mean he is going to pull the trigger on just any deal. I think Danny is going to do what is best for the team THIS YEAR. I don't see him trading Ray just to get younger, but if a younger player is available that still gives us a chance to conted this year he has to do it. We will all know in about 2 and a half weeks.

While Martin is a good player, he is not a great player, and I don't see why he should be "out of the Celtics reach," especially if Sac is in financial trouble. Martin is just a shooter. That's it. He's an average to bad defensive player. He has trouble creating his own shot. And he takes plays off. So far he hasn't played well with Evans, and Evans is the far superior player. If I'm Sac, I would probably part with Martin (if they need financial relief). And I wouldn't expect to get back anything more than an expiring. Martin can score points from shooting the ball. The guy is more Anthony Morrow than Ray Allen circa 2003.

I think you don't give K-Mart enough credit.  He's one of the best players in the league at getting to the line (where he's money) and he's a decent rebounder / passer for his size and position.  He's also very quick and agile - very good at finishing inside with a layup (though not a dunk).

K-Mart's main weaknesses are his suspect defense (which might improve if he were on a team where he didn't have to shoulder the offensive load) and his tendency to get injured.  He's not a superstar, but at his best he's a fringe All-Star, and I think he could be an All-Star if put in the right situation (like Gerald Wallace, Zach Randolph).
