plus doesnt anybody think that Ray for Caron and Mike Miller makes much more sense to winning this year?

Well then Mr. Hobbs the only trade that might satisfy what the C's want to do but what we would like in return might be

Ray Allen to Scaramento for Kevin Martin and kenny Thomas

I'd be fine with that, but I can't see Sacramento doing it.  If they're moving Martin, it's got to be to dump salary, right?

While I'd love to have Martin's skillset here for the long-term, it should at least be noted that his games played totals in 2007-08 and 2008-09 were 61 and 51 respectively, and he has only played 14 this season due to injury.  For a guy built like a stringbean at 6-7, 185, that's a bit disconcerting.

But when he's healthy, he's a heck of an offensive player.

Yeah, therein lies the rub (well, that, and the utter lack of defense).  However, if we're going to compete in both the short and long-term, you need to take risks, right?  Martin's contract is reasonable enough that it wouldn't completely kill us, even if things don't work out.  If they do, we have an elite shooting / scoring guard.

Re: utter lack of defense, agreed...but if not for the fact that Ray has played in this particular system for the last three years, how much of a downgrade could he really be at that spot?

I realize Ray did yeoman's work yesterday against Bryant - and did just about everything legally possible on the final jumper - but it's not like he's some defensive stalwart.  To that end, while there may be other reasons to be concerned with rumors of moves for guys like Martin (health) and Monta Ellis (size, unreliable outside shot), I'm not sure the defensive downgrade there would be appreciable enough to be a deal-breaker.

That's the thing: Martin's offensive game doesn't have a lot of flaws. He is good in catch and shoot situations and good when he has to create for himself. But I will stop discussing him because that is probably a pipe dream.

Just for the heck of it:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygbsqcj

Phoenix blows it up.
Boston gets Hinrich and Amare, sends out Ray, Scal, Big Baby
Chicago turns Hinrich & Miller into Richardson & Big Baby

You know, in case ownership in Phoenix needs money BAD next year =)

Unlike Ellis, who's undersized and mentally lazy, Martin has defensive potential. Martin's problem is that he's a bit short-armed and takes possessions off in terms of intensity and effort - partially due to being so absorbed with the offense. He can always struggle with bigger players, but that's too much of a rarity to matter. Martin would improve to slightly above average defender in the Celtics.

Not worried about the injuries either. If he was victim of a recurrent shoulder/knee/whatever problem, then yeah, but so far they've been a product of bad luck.

What I don't see is a way of getting Martin. Perkins could entice them, but how would we replace Perkins?

In 2006, if a team was willing to give up an expiring contract for Mark Blount, would you have given up Paul Pierce?

Ray, Perk and a stable of 300 of Boston's finest women to Phoenix for Amare and Barbosa.

If you were hemorrhaging money and had Dwyane Wade ready to take his spot...possibly, but still no.

Definitely, if we had just drafted someone better than Pierce who played the same position, and the deal was going to potentially allow us to rebuild overnight with tons of cap room.

Oh, and if Paul Pierce in 2006 wasn't significantly better than Kevin Martin in 2010.

What do you guys think of Adrian W? He has broken some stuff from our locker room, but I would trust this more if it was Spears. I wonder if he heard directly from us or if it was some low on the totem pole scout that told him that Ray's name was being thrown around.

i think he is a very good and informed writer. i do believe him and spears are very good at what they do and think if he is saying he has heard this...then it is legit

How about J-Rich And Amare for Ray,Perkins,Giddens, and big baby?
I think that we could def. contend this year and moving forward with that team.

Rondo/House/Hopefully a better backup PG from a buyout lol
J-Rich/Tony/Daniels
Pierce/Daniels/Walker
KG/Williams/Sheed
Amare/Sheed/Williams

im in no mood to trade a legit young center for a power forward who masquerades as a center.. This move would affect our defense in numerous ways and not in good ways
