  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Trades fitting this description that make sense

- Ray Allen, and Sheldon Williams for Jason Richardson, grant Hill and Louis Amundson

- Ray Allen and Kendrick Perkins for Chris Kaman, Eric Gordon, Craig Smith and Rasula Butler(yeah, pipe dream but I figure I would throw it in there)

- Ray Allen and Glen Davis for Kirk Hinrich, John Salmons and Tyrus Thomas

- Ray Allen for Andre Iguodala and Jason Kapono

- Ray Allen and picks for Kevin Martin and Andres Nocioni

- Ray Allen and Shelden Williams for Mike Dunleavy, Jeff Foster and Earl Watson

I like all those deals except for the last one.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

If Ainge does this, I hope he doesn't do things halfway.

That is, I hope he either gets someone young, a "bridge to the future," or an borderline all star type. While this may be obvious, most of the trade suggestions that have come out this weekend do neither. Trading Allen for a 30 year old player who is not as good as Allen neither helps the future nor does it help us now.

Well, it depends.  I think it will be tough for the C's to get a SG as good as Ray (at least Ray when he is playing at his best), but if they can find a good SG who can give this team a little more defense without hurting too much on offense, plus upgrade the team in another position, then it would be worth it.

That would be a very nice upgrade off the bench, Shelden to Amundson. Much more defensive quality, better athleticism and quickness, and better rebounding. Great hustle + energy. More toughness too.

I'd love to see the Celtics steal him away from Phoenix.

From what I read they LOVE the guy

Yeah ... no way to get him unless it's part of a larger deal (Ray for J-Rich) or if the C's were willing to give up a first which pricey since he'll be a free agent this summer. Only part of a major trade really.

I'm probably along on this, or have very little company, but I don't want to trade ray.  The one thing that something away from the 2008 title team is that it didn't feel like it was "ours."  It was almost a team of mercenaries.  Now, this team finally feels like its "ours" and I'd be a little upset to see a guy like Ray go, even if it means winning again.  I know that sounds a little dumb, but i guess thats the emotional side of things when it comes to sports.

I'm more for going to battle and sinking or swimming with what we've got.  I know I've very lonely in this opinion, but hey, it is what it is.

Amundson is another solid rebounder that would help the team above his skill-level/rotation spot. If the Celtics do a big trade, including a good rebounding 3rd/4th big in the package should be a priority.

So, if accurate, the purpose here is to save money.  I'm thrilled.

Yea, really.

I'm not opposed to moving ray allen, but considering we'll be over the hard cap regardless, it better be for a high pick or a 2 gaurd that's ready to contribute to a contender.

I don't know about that it says they want a cheaper SG,but a cheaper SG could still be a good player making 10- 13 mil? The problem is the only way they do that is taking on other salary. Magette, Bell and Radmonovic would kind fit that. We could buy out Radmonovic .

This conflicts with the rumors of us trying to add Hinrich's salary for our expiring contracts. I am not sure what to believe?

It's the part about the expiring contract that I don't like.  That means the team is insistent on clearing payroll.  I'm not hugely encourage by that idea; if this is true, it means the Celts may be considering essentially punting the season.

I read it more as that they (the celtics) are concerned that they may not be able to retain ray for what they are willing to pay vs. what other teams may be willing to pay (knicks and heat were mentioned) and as such would rather get something back for his contract than letting it expire and get nothing.

As long as the "something" is a SG who can contribute to a contender (like hinrick or ellis) who is staying put after this year, i'd be grudginly ok with that thinking.

Personally i'd rather just keep ray though, as i don't think an offer thats good enough to justify his departure will materialize.

This thought went through my head too

If they add a lesser salaried SG but need an expiring contract that means there is a very definitive budget set for the post three year Big Three window and that maybe bigger cuts might be coming in the future

I didn't want to think it

I didn't want to say it but now that someone has, I don't like the message they might be sending out if this is true

Well, if nothing else, Danny can try his "I would have traded Larry" theory on a much smaller scale.  My guess is, this blows up in his face, as it will decrease our chance of winning this year, and will doom us to mediocrity in the future.

I hope I'm wrong, but Corey Maggette (for instance) is not the core type of player to build around, while cutting payroll at the same time.
