Tonight was the last straw.

I don't wanna give up on the Celtics but this is too much and is not worth it anymore.

Over the last year or so...

I can't sleep every time they lose.

My anxiety goes up before and during games that my psychiatrist had to give me ****.

I have cursed my wife with every four letter word every time she tells me it's "just a game".

4 times my wife has left the house with the Children and stayed in a hotel overnight.

Numerous times I have made my Children cry by cussing at after a bad loss.

I've suffered deep depressions after losses that I have to take Zoloft.

I don't wanna sound like a fair weather fan. I don't want to be a fair weather fan.

Anyone going through the same thing? If yes, How do you handle it?

I think it's time to change the channel... It's just a game.  We watch it to love the highs, be able to complain about the downs, bond with friends, escape to fantasy, and help us get through the 9 to 5... This sounds like you're only getting the downs, and extreme at that.  Not healthy; maybe following the standings but not in and out of games.  It honestly sounds like you're hurting the ones around you and that's not the point of entertainment.

Watch the movie Fever Pitch with your family and at the end tell them you're giving up the Celtics forever cause they mean way more to you.

in the end, ur wife is right, it IS just a game!  im as big of a celtics fan as there is.  watching every game for basically my entire life (im in my 30s), having celtics tattoos, and paying $$$$ for season tickets.......but my love and devotion to the celtics cant compare to my family.

with all due respect......it time to take a step back and put things into perspective.

Celtics ink, DL?  Whaddaya got?

Been thinking about an "I <3 Mikki forever" one myself.   ;)

I might feel half or maybe 3 quarters as depressed as that if they were to say, lose in the finals in 7 to the lakers... but regular season games? Never.

Wow ... most on here know that there are fewer fans more devoted than I, (many as devoted, obviously), but this is a GAME, and any obsession becomes a detriment when loved ones or healthy lifestyle are affected.

I've been a Celtics fan for over 40 years, and if you want to savor the good, you've got to learn to suffer the bad ... every sport, every team, every athlete, will have up times and down, and if we limit ourselves to only the best, we're setting ourselves up for a great deal of disappointment in life.

Breathe deep, slowly exhale, thank God for the blessings, and keep life in a proper perspective ... the Celts have NOT won their last championship. Besides, we like having you around! ;)

Perfectly normal and perfectly healthy behavior. I'm pretty sure most fans are in your shoes doing those very things.

I don't know if getting unpleasant to the point of your wife and children leaving the household and staying in a hotel room is necessarily "perfectly healthy".  Once sports starts affecting your kids' life, it's time to get your priorities straight (which afflatus seems to be doing).

Never let the passtime of watching a game get in the way of family.  If you need to take Zoloft, and curse your wife and children you are taking the this way too far and should altogether break away from the TV.

Take up a healthy hobby with your wife and children, like long walks to the park and make them happy.  The sport will go on without the drama created at home, and your family needs you to be with them not the Celtics.

By the way afflatus, I would never label you a fairweather fan. Not a chance. No one can question your loyalty. I fully support the idea that you take a break and see first hand that the world does go on just fine. You need to be there for your family, first and foremost.

Hard to believe what's in the OP, but I guess it happens.

The topic title had me aching to post something about how that person was not a fan, though. Weird!

Hey, I understand as much as anyone how emotional investment in sports and associated disappointment can ruin your day, or even your week.

But if you're really reacting this way to the Celtics playing like crap then you have bigger issues than just being too invested in the Celtics.

Sorry you feel that way.  To me it is not "life or death" and I have always, and will continue to support the Celtics (while not always loving every minute of it, I do appreciate every minute of it.)  The struggle is what makes life worth while, after all...

They are still playing at a high level. Is painful to watch KG and Sheed is everything I hate about today's NBA (7' whiner who does not like to bang inside). Ray Allen is a joy to watch even when they are not falling. He has a beautiful game. PP is a warrior. Rondo is frustrating at times but amazing to watch.

All in all pretty good basketball. Too many three's but that is more a matter of taste.
