A Harsh Assessment of 2009-10: The Window is Closed

No it would not. I have felt that since the injuries have been mounting and clearly Ray and KG are no longer close to their former selves, this team will not get out of the East this year.

A slumping team losses on a well defended shot of possible the best player on the planet with 7 seconds left and loses by one, and the team is done?

It depends on what "done" means.  If done means not making the playoffs or getting eliminated in the 1st round, then no not done.  Championship aspirations? Yes done.  I mean c'mon, look at these games.  I know it's hard to admit but my eyes tell me this team can't close out games, they do look old, they do look tired.

Positive people keep saying "with a healthy KG, with Marquis back etc."...well who says KG will be back to normal?  Cause going back to the second half of last season and into the first half of this season, I still don't see it.  And until I do, I have no other choice but to think this team really does have no shot of winning it all.

So, you're willing to definitively write off the season, even though you admit that KG may get healthier?

In the first half of this season, with a relatively healthy KG, we had the best record in the NBA and were dominating in point differential.  Then he got hurt again, and he's working his way back.

On December 20, this team was 20-5.  At that point, Pierce got hurt, followed by KG's injury.  It's been a struggle since that time, but there's absolutely no reason to think this team is "done".

From reading the various threads in here, and using the logic therein, I've definitively come up with the winner of the 2009-10 NBA title:  nobody.

Since every team in the NBA has flaws, and have had stretches where they struggled, there are no championship contenders.  Zero. 

My question is, what do they do with the Larry O'Brien trophy?  Do they just give next year's champion two of them?

the lakers are on hame 7 of an 8 game roadie...with a beat up kobe bryant and they still won...in boston....after trailing by 11 in the 4th. boston has issues that they must figure out because they are giving games away

There were some signs of life: The defense was top shelf in the fourth quarter, I saw more hop from Garnett on the defensive end, Rondo for three and a half quarters, Tony Allen's contribution in the first half.

And signs of trouble: No ball movement whatsoever in the second half of the fourth quarter, zero motion away from the basketball, poor shot selection, a PG who was willing to settle for pounding the basketball at the top of the key without so much as a cursory attempt at penetration, shooters willing to settle for the three and the outside shot with no thought of a dribble drive.

There are NO moral victories. I am not in the slightest bit encouraged by a one-point loss to the Lakers. This team, in my opinion, isn't athletic enough to hold off athletic teams down the stretch.

should we have to be grasping for signs of life...at home vs the lakers? and i agree with you 100 percent...they are not athletic enough down the stretch...esp on offense

With a team with this many miles on it, you have to rely entirely on the young legs to provide that athleticism. My biggest disappointment walking away from this game is the absence of that.

Why didn't TA play in the 2nd half? And why did Rondo stop driving and attacking?

I'm frankly comfortable saying flatly that this group will not win a title. Too many miles, too much settling for stuff on the floor - on both ends.

Maybe there's a deal out there to change the mix; I don't know. I don't know that a trade can forcefeed someone onto the floor to drive and dish in key spots, for example.

Roy if we offered Chicago Tony, Scal, House AND a first round pick, would Chicago do it(Hinrich)? I am very aware they freeing cap space for them like this maylet them get a shot with Bosh and another star. Do you have ideas on a trade that would work now for us and that they would do because of how much they would be helped this summer? Thanks

i agree....as much as it pains me to say it...

How can you say that?? it doesn't make sense to say it at the end of January none of us can flat out say it and be right because nobody knows whats going to happen.
