The officiating is putrid. The 3rd quarter of the hawks game is pretty unbearable to watch. The whole quarter was a free throw shooting contest. Not to mention some of the ridiculous techs called on sheed and even the flagrant against josh smith was a horrible call.

I made a thread about this awhile ago.

The main gist of it was that the NBA would be a lot better off if they allowed players to be a little more physical on defense.

This would reduce the number of phantom calls where players don't even create contact, reduce the number of fouls overall so basketball games aren't freethrow shooting contests, and reward fundamentals.

The best part is how easy it would be to implement: simply get all of the refs together, and tell them to NOT call incidental contact as a foul. Maybe show a few video clips to demonstrate the difference. Problem solved.

Oh, and just to add on a bit, in my opinion college refs call the game the right way. If the talent were as good in college basketball, I'd much rather watch it because the refs do a better job of letting the PLAYERS actually decide the game.

It's fun to see the players go up and down the court a few times without a whistle being blown. Whenever I watch an NBA game, it always seems like just when things start to get really exciting a ref blows his whistle on something dumb and takes the energy out of the building.

we can all go back and put the blame where it belongs. on the detroit pistons of the late 80's early 90's.

because of their crap, the nba had to change how the game was officiated, tried to take the trash talking out, tried to take the "policing themselves" aspect out of it. the brawl at auburn hills also played a huge role, but that was also the pistons fault.

most bad things in the nba can be traced back to the pistons franchise. it is why i cannot wish enough bad things on them and their dumb fans and their dumb pa guy.

Let's not forget the Riley Knicks, Riley Heat and Van Gundy Knicks

They had something to do with this too because they were being physical with the number one marketing tool in the entire world, Michael Jordan
Pick 2 Knicks

SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham

Oh, which reminds me of the other thing I said in my thread. That if you were to tell the refs not to call light contact as fouls, you'd also probably have to reduce the personal foul limit so players wouldn't go too nuts with the physicality. I think this would strike a pretty good balance between the track meet that is today's game and the ugliness that was Pistons basketball

true but the pistons "won" using that style. the knicks, being the pathetic franchise they are, never won using that pathetic style. they helped stern and this movement, but it was detroit that helped the downward spiral of the nba.

Bump this laker game is such putrid officiating

i am sitting here, making dinner for my 3 year old. the refs rule that sheed's 3 pointer did not hit the rim. from the other room, i say yes it did, it skidded off the rim and backboard.

as soon as i saw bennet salvadore, i knew we were in trouble. between him and mike breen, there were 7 people in lakers jerseys out there.
