I won't forget the 6-10, but it will make it easier to accept. That said, recent performances and the Celtics inability to win at home this year don't give me too much confidence on Sunday. Wonder if the Lake show will be favored?

In 1969 the Boston Celtics won the championship after going through a 48-34, injury plagued season with three of their biggest stars Bill Russell, Sam Jones and Bailey Howell all being over 32 years of age

See any similarities

Watch out for history as it tends to repeat itself

Great point. Never knew about that...too young.

yeah, but we live in the future, this kind of thing can only happen in 1969, not now, no chance

Again, I never said KG had to retire

I just would like to know if players that have time left on their contracts retire does the money come off the books

You probably did't mean it but I used it as an example since a lot of people seem to think that he should really retire or get freezed till the playoffs. Nothing personal or anything, but I just wanted to emphasize the overreaction by fans and it served as a good example.
Hit the giveth one for a "Tommy Point" for the explanation

Sorry, I thought that was directed my way

By the way, excellent rant

It's best not to emulate the once in a lifetime teams in the same lifetime.

The C's are in a prolonged slump.  Much can be blamed on the dog days and injuries, but the ongoing concern is the apparent decomposition of the healthy but aging stars Ray and Sheed.

Ray's shown some signs of emerging from a shooting slump, but they've been faint, while Sheed has been consistently inefficient with no end in sight.  Their inability to punish teams with their offense has been one of the primary causes of our offensive struggles (and neither are contributing much to our still excellent defense, although Sheed has played well in spurts).

If they sustain the same level of production throughout the season and on into the postseason, our offense will continue to be mediocre and our defense will have to be heroic to keep us in tight playoff games.  That scenario, which seems the most reasonable projection to me, does not inspire confidence in their playoff chances.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Great post, Drucci! Thank you. TP!
And I totally disagree with George Bernard Shaw.

the silver lining in us struggling is that it will make a Ray Allen trade (something I believe this team needs to do while his contract is still valuable) seem less sacrilege

RE: the GBS quote: I just now realized it can be interpreted 2 different ways. But the way I wanted to convey was that people continue to ignore history and assume that the present is WAYYYY DIFFERENT, when in reality the same cycles repeat themselves.

Well, yes, that is true because it's the circle of life.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I agree that it's not 'over' or anything, but do any of you really have any confidence in the Lakers game? I mean, they could come out and play great, but the Celtics just don't seem to be trying hard lately (or something).

There does need to be some shake up. We just look really really old- whether that includes a small trade with some of our expirings or a large trade with Ray, I do think we need some new energy/dynamics coming to this team.

It's not now that matters. It's how we're playing when the playoffs roll around. If we're healthy, we'll be a contender. If we're not, there's not a [dang] trade you can run through the trade machine that will make any difference.

I'm confused. Is he saying we never learn anything from history, maybe cause we don't pay attention, or we don't learn anything from history because it's impossible to do that (perhaps because we live in different times?)

I think what George Bernard Shaw means is that if we are not careful then we may repeat it.

Now in PLamb's quote, I hope we do repeat History (1968-69 Celtics). That part of Celtics History makes me realize that Boston can still win this thing in June.

How about now?

Still not time to panic. :)

Positives from the Hawks game :

- They got only 7 offensive rebounds... and we did have 7 offensive boards too, so the problem on the boards can be solved.

- Our bench (and Sheed particularly) killed us but we had the edge with our starters. Josh Smith was pretty much a non factor against KG.

- KG looked good. A few dunks, no limping, he went to the free-throw line and hustled, diving on the floor.

- We didn't have Marquis. I really think it's a key in our matchups against them since Crawford is always killing us. Marquis could defend him well, and, more importantly, give some cohesion and effectiveness to our bench. With Marquis in the rotation, Eddie will play better and so will Sheed and Baby.

- Are you really scared by the Hawks? I mean they play one on one basketball on EVERY possession. They only live by individual success and fastbreak - we didn't give them a single (or close) fastbreak opportunity in the second half after getting burned in the first. Good sign.

I'm sorry but I just don't see how a team that plays one on one on every possession can beat us in the playoffs. And I frankly don't understand how the Hawks can be 2nd in the East while playing this ugly and uninspired kind of bastketball.

The loss hurts once again but... I feel good about Sunday's game against the Fakers.
