Is it too late to start tanking for a draft pick?  I mean, why even play out the rest of the season, since we're doomed?

 :P

Roy -- many posters here must subscribe to your recommendation since they constantly post that regular season games are meaningless  ;D

To hear Doc talking about tonight's game is revealing.  He actually agrees with the more observant posters on this board on how the C's should have been up by far more than 11 points at halftime instead of being "positive" about having a small lead relative to the dominance the C's had displayed...

"We deserved it," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I thought we completely lost our focus. An 11-point lead at halftime, I told them it was a joke. We should've been up by 25 points."

KG was terrible and unable to even move up and down the court.  Pierce made one big shot but was invisible for most of the game.  Matt Barnes of all people shut him down!  Ray Allen was great for much of the night but got hardly any touches in the 4th quarter.   This latest collapse hit the C's hard and it's good to see Doc addressing it instead of hiding behind excuses or cliches as he quite often does...

Yes, because anyone who ever sees anything positive in a game is simply not observant, right? And people want to post positive things for it's own sake, right?

We played three solid quarters and were absolutely manhandled in the last. The problem is not that the lead wasn't bigger at the half. The problem is that we sucked in the 4th when Doc and the team didnt adjust to Gortat and Howard on the court.

Yes, heaven forbid posters actually try to enjoy the game threads and bring a little bit of positivity to them, rather than engage in the constant attacks on the team and the fans that we've seen there lately.

I get the sense that a minority of fans who post in the game threads are actually rooting for the team to fail, so they can be proven "right".  That, however, is a subject for another time...
For this purpose I have invented a new "Feel Good Game Thread"

I will start posting one the day of every game

Sorry if it isn't as elaborate as FLCeltsFan's

But it will be reaching for an exclusively positive, rah-rah, normal watching at the bar type feel to it and I will ask those of with a "educatedly, critically observant" point of view to stay in the regular game thread, thank you

Just curious, but what exactly do you think Doc was saying? We did lose focus. We jumped out to a big lead and were playing like we were up by 30. Things like behind the back/over the shoulder/no-look passes from players not named Rondo. Are you reading something else into that comment?

To be fair, you need three game threads. The normal one, the "Feel Good Game Thread", and the "Hand Wringer's Game Thread", for those who feel that their doom and gloom attitude makes them somehow more unbiased than the people who aren't in a state of panic.

They're lacking a killer instinct.  I think back to when they'd come outta the gates into the 3rd, and blow teams away.  They lack a lot of that championship "swag"

Think you nailed an attitude that seems to be conveyed by some these days.  Funny thing is that most of us don't buy the "holier than thou" attitude being presented.

Well, all I have to say is the "feel Good Game Thread" is open to everyone so long as they are cheering on the team in a normal, at the bar, let's go guys, positive type of manner

Sure disappointment for bad plays will of course be expected in posts

But the blatantly critical posts will not be welcome and if some of the posters that prefer that type of observational blogging while watching a game come to this thread to participate with that type of posting, then it will pretty much prove to me that they are in FACT purposely trying to egg people on and cause hard feelings, you know trolling

So no,
"[dang] it, they didn't box again and the other team scored on
yet another offensive rebound!"
"What the @#%$!@#%@$ they just threw it away again trying to get too cute with their passes!"
"Stay in front of you man!"

Sorry PLamb, that's just too easy to lampoon.  A "Feel Good" thread would just naturally happen when the team plays a really good game from beginning to end.  Next time the play one, watch the "regular" game thread and you'll see a lot of positivity.

Up until this last post, I've been finding you a very refreshing voice on this blog and very insightful.  Hope you keep posting but I had to just throw a comment out about this one.  People are entitled to their opinions, as distasteful as some of them may be.

I don't think so.  Certain posters were attacking the team in the New Jersey blowout.  Negative comments were about 3:1 at halftime of last night's game, even though we had an 11 point lead over a very good team.

Certain posters enjoy being overtly negative, to lessen the enjoyment of others.  I firmly believe that.

Isn't Plamb's suggestion to allow everybody to have their opinion?  As I understand it, he's simply proposing an alternative thread for members to post in.

I can certainly see where PLamb is coming from...I try to read the Blog Rules over from time to time again just to make sure I'm in compliance, but I must admit....It does seem like some do in fact root for Boston to lose. I have been a Blog member for only about 4 months now, but a casual guest since early 2007.

Here lately, I have noticed some who don't even post a lot while Boston is drilling their foes, but come out on the Blog when Boston is struggling.

Not judging these folks, because they are "Calling the game the way it is", I suppose...but I just wonder sometimes.

you need all the points of view maaan---the ying and the yang duuude....otherwise dialogue is incomplete.   someone mentioned that "killer instinct and championship swag" is missing from the squad.  I wanna add scrappiness....during the champ run, I remember win or lose I always felt like we had a chance because the team was scrappin.---scrappy defense, scrappin for loose balls, scrappin for rebounds.  Even when we lost I was satisfied with the teams play. We were agressors.  This year...Idunno.  Outta the gate I thought the swag was there---then something clicked.  maybe its age, Idunno.  Not even talkin injuries here.  If I had to make a move, it would be to add<overpay> for a couple studs on the bench and hope the starters work out the kinks--

  • Rondo = Good

Certain posters enjoy being overtly negative, to lessen the enjoyment of others.  I firmly believe that.

On the other hand, some people just like to call a spade a spade.

It really bothers me when people imply that somebody who is being critical or negative is a just a troll looking to incite controversy or conflict.

Sometimes that's the case, and when it is, it's usually blatantly obvious because they don't try very hard to think their reasoning through - they're just being jerks.

On the other hand, a lot of the time people who are being critical just aren't the type of people who feel like being blindly optimistic when things are falling apart before their eyes, and feel a desire to post their reasoning for what they are seeing going wrong.  The main problem with that kind of poster is sometimes they tend to go overboard a bit, repeating themselves a lot.

But I think you have to acknowledge that the "woohoo come on guys let's be positive banner 18 no matter what!" kind of people have been, at times, just as hostile as those who are more in the "wow our team has looked really bad lately and i'm not confident things are going to get better!" crowd.

Some people comfort themselves when they are faced with the disappointment of their favorite team playing badly by rationalizing it and telling themselves that they could see it coming all along.  They start to assume the worst, because that way they can't possibly be disappointed; at worst they are merely shown to be correct.

My dad does that, and it's very obnoxious.  I've vowed not to watch New England sports games with him anymore because he repeats the same negative, pessimistic refrain about whatever team we're watching and always assumes the worst will happen.  What's worst, I can tell he's doing it mostly just to get me going, because he knows I'm a big fan, and even though I try to be realistic, I also try to be as positive as possible.

So I can understand the desire to get away from people like that.  But honestly I haven't seen nearly as many "negative Nancy's" as PLamb makes out.  There are a few 'usual suspects' who say the same things over and over and seem to be trying to get people going somewhat, but overall I just think there's a lot of negativity because, unfortunately, there's a lot to be negative about right now.

So then there will be two threads and no need for hostilities

Us blindly optimist people can have our thread and enjoy what we are doing and those great thinkers and observationists that tell it like it is can stay in the regular game thread
