He want to be called "UNO UNO" that is italian.
I'm italian, and for BBD I like an other italian nickname:
"CICCIO DAVIS" that means "Fatty Davis".

Does anyone care to explain to me what Davis has done to deserve this venom from some of the posters in this thread?

Quite frankly, I find it pretty stupid to make fatty jokes about a professional athlete.

I don't have venom so much as incredulity of the outright arrogance of davis in declaring all his problems this year "in the past" and then selecting a new nickname for himself to "mark the occasion".

You earn nicknames and respect through your actions, not empty gestures to a beat reporter that reflect you really have no concept about why fans and the media question your maturity.

As i said, i like davis, seems like a good kid, but his actions this year have been the height of "spoiled athlete who doesn't appreciate what they have"

people don't like that, espically on this team that prides it self on sacrifice and not doing things like getting into a drunken brawl on the eve of the new season and costing your team your services for in essence half a year, yelling at court side fans like a spoiled brat, and complaining about your role on the team over the summer.

This year has been a huge step back for big baby, and a fake nickname change is not going to satisfy alot of those critical of his behavior, myself included.

What ever happened to earning a nickname?

Till he earns one I am going to call him Hendry William French.
"Coach you were 24 and 58 last year, why the playoff talk?"
"Well we made a couple of key trades . . . and we got The Funk."

It's childish to even care about a nickname.  He's contributed nothing since signing his contract so he shouldn't even be mentioning this stuff.  Who cares about nicknames.  Larry Bird was known as Larry Bird, Michael Jordan was known as Michael or Jordan( nobody really called him air), for all the King James stuff, he's known as Lebron, Wade is Wade, Duncan is Duncan.  It's very rare that a nickname superseeds the real name(like Big Baby, Dr. J, Magic Johnson).  Paul is the truth but everyone really calls him Paul Pierce, Ray is Ray, Garnett is a simple KG.
I really don't think he needs to follow clowns like Ochocinco and Agent Zero.  Baby is really making himself look like a clown, which is the last thing he should be doing now.

Lebron - King James
Wade - Flash
Garnett - KG or Ticket
Paul - Truth
Duncan - the Big Fundamental

Most of these guys have nicknames, just because people don't call them that all the time - people don't call Big Baby that all the time either.  And he did earn the nickname Big Baby.   And just because you think Big Baby hasn't contributed doesn't mean he can't have a nickname. ::)

The reason Baby asked for a new nickname is because people like Doc Rivers and fans on this site were complaining about calling him Big Baby (a name that he has had most of his life), thus the request for a name change.  I doubt he would say anything about his name had people not complained about it.  I find it too funny that people are getting all bent out of shape just because Big Baby asked for a new nickname, especially after complaining about him being called Big Baby.

Can you post any links to anyone in the organization complain about his nickname, other than to point out he lives up to it?

Its a hollow gesture to try to deflect from the huge maturity issues he's had this year, nothing more.

Maybe he can celebrate his new fake nickname by getting drunk tonight and breaking his other hand on a steering wheel while trying to punch a friend of his. Would be about par for the course for his behavior so far this year.

If davis wants to earn my respect, he should try acting like a professional on a consistent basis. Until then i have no interest in excusing him for his blatant maturity issues, no matter what nickname he wants us to call him.

I'd like to take this statement to emphasize that I completely agree with cas that these type of comments are silly, reflect badly on those posting them, and are petty.

I diverge with Cas in that i don't find any merit in babys search for a new nickname and think it's a hollow gesture, but the people chiming in just to make fat jokes are just embarrassing themselves IMO.

If you were going to post about Wade and James, I doubt if you'd say Flash and King James.  When we talk about Davis we always say Baby.

I still don´t know what he has actually done to deserve all these jokes, and I´m not playing dumb here.

He has a nickname, and he doesn´t like it anymore. It´s absolutely understandable if he wants people to stop calling him a nickname he views as derogatory, everyone of us would do the same.
What if everyone you know calls you the anime-nerd? Your friends, your boss, people on the street you don´t know anything about.

I think he doesn´t demand a new nickname as much as he wants to get rid of the old one. The thing is, since he already has a nickname, he needs another nick to get rid of it, otherwise people will always use that first nick.

I don´t think Baby held a press conference about his "Quest for a Nick". It´s your typical interview situation where an unqualified reporter meets a professional athlete, and two minutes into the interview, he has no idea what to ask him, so he starts with all these trivial questions (or better, just catchwords) like "I´ve heard (read on the internet) that you have a problem when people call you Baby..."

To be honest, I think this whole discussion is making a mountain out of a mole hill, just for the sake of making fatty jokes.

Can you post any links to anyone in the organization complain about his nickname, other than to point out he lives up to it?

I can´t provide a link, either, but I also remember that Doc was the first who said in an interview that people should call him Glen.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

Then let it be just that, imo. BBD's nickname used to be about his baby face, and his size. However, since he's done some immature things, the nickname became a burden because people began calling him that for all the wrong reasons. Having a nickname requires you living up to it. Fail, and your nickname becomes a bad thing.

It's his own fault, he made the name a bad thing, and now he's suffering for it. Instead of focussing on changing the nickname, he should act differently. Maybe he'll get a new one, maybe he'll come to love it again.

That's just my opinion. I like reading the so called "fatty jokes" because that's what they are. Heck, I wouldn't trade BBD in the world, neither would I trade Eddie House, but I dig the fatty jokes as much as I dig the brick jokes. They are what they are; jokes. Jipes. Funny stuff. Eddies is still our mansion, baby is still our emotional spark off the bench.

Take it like a man, BBD buddy.

That said, I think the fella is just in need of a pat on the back. He's been suffering under bad rumors/stories a lot lately. He'll get the appreciation again soon though. He just needs to keep attacking the boards.

People like making good-natured fat jokes; I don't see the venom that you do.  Rather, I think most people are mostly just teasing, although some certainly don't like BBD.

If there is scorn, it's because:

1.  He broke down in tears during a game;
2.  In the past, he's made it very clear his #1 priority is getting paid;
3.  He pouted this summer when he didn't get the contract offer he wanted;
4.  He broke his hand acting like a moron;
5.  He recently was fined by the NBA for verbally attacking a fan;
6.  He's not playing all that well;
7. He's been criticized by his owner, coach, and GM for being immature;
8.  He's overweight.

In other words, he's big, and he's a bit of a baby.  Thus, why people think he shouldn't be complaining about his nickname.  If the shoe fits...

If #6 weren't true, a lot of the other stuff would be on the backburner.  I know he has to get into the flow, but I expect a LOT more from him.  I was thrilled when we were able to resign him and he better get his butt in gear.
