Per Wojnarowski's Twitter :

Quote
It appears Chicago has found a bench scorer: Bulls and Hornets are near Aaron Gray for Devin Brown trade, sources say.

Obviously, the Hornets did the trade to get closer of being under the luxury tax. They are still 425 000 $ above.

The Bulls get rid of an useless player and get a shooter with an expiring deal, as they wished.

So, do you think it makes the Bulls more eager to accept a bunch of expirings from the C's to unload Hinrich and his terrible contract at the trade deadline, considering they still want to make the playoffs this season?

How could the Bulls afford that?

They weren't able to sign another player for a minimum. Too close to the luxury tax threshold.

Edit: Huh, Gray makes $1mil? That's surprising. It's only his third year right? Shouldn't he be closer to $825k? And Devin Brown is at $1.107 million. So only a $100k difference. The Bulls were $125k below the LTT prior to the trade so they're still just below the threshold. Jeez, they probably can't even afford a 10 day contract at this stage.

Saw this day coming in the off-season. But could I patiently wait out Marcus Thornton's DNP-CDs? No, I just had to have DeMarre Carroll, Bobby Simmons, Carlos Arroyo...

I'll believe it when it happens.

Brown has veto power on this trade. He shot down a trade earlier this season (to Minnesota, IIRC). Considering he'd move to the bench in Chicago, he may not be keen to help NO out here.

Edit: Looks like the Worldwide Leader has picked up on this as well, so there may be some legs to this:
