Celtics' Offense needs attention

It's been reported before that Doc thinks the Celtics' offense will come naturally due to the amount of talent on the team so he doesn't think too much of it. I respectfully disagree. I don't like how Doc ignores the team's offensive woes and just focuses completely on defense. Here's a recent quote from Doc regarding an aspect of the team's offense - offensive rebounding:

Rivers on offensive rebounding: “I don’t worry about offensive glass much. As many offensive rebounds as you get, I’d rather get back on defense. I’m more concerned about the defensive glass. We’re shooting above 50 percent, so half your offensive rebounds are gone every time you shoot the ball.
“We’re holding teams to 41-42 percent, so they’re clearly going to have more offensive-rebound opportunities. If we can get defensive glass, then we can shoot 60 percent because we can run.’’

IMO, Doc is giving too much emphasis on defense and is completely ignoring the offense. Defense wins championships, but lousy offense makes it easier for the opponents' defense too does it not?

If the Celtics stop giving up so many more shots to the other team off of offensive rebounds their offense will be plenty good enough. The C's are a great shooting team, they just give up too many turnovers and offensive boards.

This team wins with it's defense. 

When the defense is on the way it is suppose to be, the offense will and usually does follow. 



p.s.  Doc never ignores offense.  It seems that he is just emphisezing the defense right now.

to me its all about the ball movement, when we are playing great, ball moves from side to side for the best open shot
this could be jumper or layup, we seem to get into the iso offense and it stagnates everything or if we are settling for 3's

The C's offense is just fine.  They are one of the most efficient offenses in the league, and when they are all on the same page, and executing like they should, they are nearly unstoppable.  But as others have pointed out, the problem is that they are getting killed on the boards, which gives other teams a lot more shots.  If the C's can find a way to level out the shots per game, they will be blowing teams out by 20 again.

The offense is fine if you don't want to win a championship....too many threes, our quoted great field% excludes the horrendous 3ball chukkin....the team is at its best in the paint-- driving to the basket, moving the ball, then slashing again or poppin midrange. the bench is also not adequate for a champ run....and I suspect management took off the homer specs to get some movement in this department.

The offense needs attention, yes. We're only shooting .480 from the floor (which is a league-best, by the way).

  We took more threes the year we won the title than we are now.
