This isn't just a response to yesterday's loss, this is something I've been wondering about in every game he has missed. Shouldn't KG be out there, sitting on the bench?

There are probably so many different reasons... he's too intense so it's too much for him to take, he could get re-injured if someone accidentally falls into him, he could be doing better things inside the locker room like training, and maybe it looks bad when he's growling and trash talking/gesturing at folks from the sidelines.

But this team could use his help from the sideline, because our defense can't hold itself together consistently enough to win games. We can't seem to get stops when they matter. In most of the player interviews and post-game press conferences I've seen, it's about lack of focus and lack of communication. KG in the game communicates and holds people accountable on defense like no other. How come he can't do this from the bench? Shout out to Rondo when picks are coming so he isn't caught by surprise. Shout out to Rasheed, Baby, Perk to get over there to help when someone gets by Rondo (which is often nowadays). Push the team to get back quickly on their transition defense. Refocus Perk to keep playing even after a number of calls don't go his way. Even from the bench I'm sure KG can see what plays are happening and contribute to our defense. I understand that Thibs is doing this all game. But KG is the real defensive leader of this team, and it makes me wonder why he can't be out there to help this team out even when he's injured... isn't that the ubuntu thing to do?

Because KG is an on the court leader.  He is not the leader sitting on the bench.  So whether he is sitting on the bench or he stays at home resting, it doesn't matter that much.

For the $200,000 per night check he's still cashing he could get Gator Ade for the team or something.

Seriously, I hate that he's not on the bench, and i never really bought the "he's too intense to sit there" stuff.  He's a grown man for god's sake.  He can't calm his primal basketball urges when he gets near a court but is not allowed to play?

Anyhow.  I'm excited to see him back on the court.
Yup

Agreed.  But everyone always makes excuses for him.  I remember last year Ray said they needed KG on the sidelines and he did show up and sit on the bench for them during the playoffs.  He needed to do this, I think, during this awful losing streak.  Don't know if it would have helped, but you won't know until you try.

I understand what you saying here but don't you think the team get enough techs.between the bench/floor?If it works for him im not opposed to him not riding the pine.Although, the money these guys make boils my blood because ive always felt they are all overpaid, thats just me.

Quick question

Is he on the bench when the team is at home?

I think KG is really too intense to sit there. Do you remember how he looked like in the playoffs last year? Always talking trash to the opponent's bench, making grins and strange facial expressions. The guy couldn't contain himself and he looked really foolish if you ask me - in a funny way for Celtics fans but he appeared as a "punk" to other fans.

So now we're not winning because we don't have KG on the bench? Come on now. This is not our first time without KG on the bench, and we've played well regardless. This is just crap excuses.

I don't think they're losing because he's not there, I just don't buy his reasoning for not being there.

What's there not to buy? Everyone knows he's an unusual person. Why can't this simply be one of his peculiarities? He's there with the team, just not on the bench during games... it's not like he's lazing it up at his home.

Unless those peculiarities make him physically ill, I don't see why he can't suck it up and be on the bench.  Admittedly a personal pet peeve.

KG acts that way on the court too.  He was fine on the bench so this "he can't sit on the bench" crap is just that, crap. And what you showed in the video didn't happen every game, but as far as I'm concerned, none of that bothers me.

and he's not the only player across the league that does not sit on the bench...ive noticed when watching Portland games Greg Oden is in the exercise room doing work when the games are going on maybe KG is working out, putting his time to better use than sitting on the bench?

KG sitting on the bench does nothing to help this team.  All that does is reinforce the fact that he is not there, giving the players another excuse in their mind to not win the game.  When KG is healthy, he will be there, and then he can try to help the team, but right now, he should not be anywhere near the bench during games, because he would just be another distraction for a team that hasn't been able to focus.
