I've remained mostly silent throughout this club's stunning descent over the last month, fueled by injuries and fueled by a puzzling lack of focus and intensity in key situation.
There are other posts on here that hint at my point, but I'm going to roll this out there right now: After another effort that's more like the pre-Garnett Celtics than the post, it is - in my opinion - time for Danny to begin actively pursuing deals for a bridge to the Celtics' future: a younger star.
I'll let you decide and debate who that star is; I've got my opinions on possibilities.
But I'll say this: In the pursuit of that bridge, there are very few players on the Celtics' roster who I'd consider off the table. We have assets - in contracts and in talent - to make such a move. It will take a bold attitude and a willingness to rattle the fan base, I suspect, to get anything meaningful done. I'll leave it at that.
The thing is this: We actually don't have any real assets. Sure, Rondo could bring in some talent, but he's not going anywhere; he is the future. I'd be fine with parting with Perk, especially if he can bring in a fringe All-Star (but how realistic is that?)
Out of Pierce, Allen, and Garnett, Allen is the only real asset we have. I don't see any team that would have interest in Pierce. Any interested team would have to be a contender, and contenders wouldn't have the young pieces we would want, nor would they have the salary to match.
Now when I read your post, I got the impression that you're ready to blow things up. I'm down with that if KG is done for the year. But, if he will be able to play come playoff time, I don't really see the point.
The only guy we can deal is Ray Allen. And, depending on what kind of talent he can bring in, I'm cool with that.
Maybe I'm not creative enough. But I really don't see "all the possibilities." I see a franchise that is, more or less, trapped for this season, except for the remote possibility of trading Ray.
