Remember those rumors that were swirling around between the Griz and the C's? People kept wondering what the C's would trade the Griz, since Memphis had no bad contracts. Well, we know Rondo was one name, and we know Rudy Gay was the another name. Also, I remember Marc Spears said he heard Perkins was the other guy getting his name thrown out there. So, knowing what we know now about all players involved, would you have done this trade?

Perkins
Rondo

for

Gay
# 2 pick (Evans [Danny said he liked Evans many times).

It makes sense that the Grizzlies would have had interest in both Perkins and Rondo. They wanted a big man (that's why they took Thabeet). And they needed a point guard--Conley isn't quite cutting it yet.

So a lineup of Evans, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, and Wallace (with Gay as the sixth man) would have left us without a true center and a true point guard. But we would have had a very solid future with Evans and Gay. Plus, with this team, it's not like our chances at the title would have been ruined. Don't people always say, "We're too old."

Now I'm not saying I would have jumped over this deal (if this was the deal). I'm just throwing this out there, as I think if anything was talked about between Memphis and Boston, this was probably it. Ultimately, I think Danny balked at it because he didn't want to potentially sabotage one last title run.

Well, there were also reports that Rondo was not actually involved in these talks.  Really all that was known was that Danny had made a run at the Grizzlies draft pick, and then the speculation began.  The most solid rumor I remember hearing was actually offering Perk for the draft pick.  But ultimately, it is impossible to know what was actually discussed.

Can I say that I am glad these ended up as just rumors?

Really glad.

Tyreke is Putting up numbers in Sac.  And Gay has always been one of my favorite non-Celtics but I think that would have killed our chances of a title this year. Rondo's play and leadership has been key this year to our success even with all of the injuries. That contract has really done something to his game...maybe an allstar appearence will land him some endourcments which will do something to his jumper/freethrows :-\

I don't remember us being linked to Gay, other than by posters here on this blog.

Conley's name was mentioned, and there were rumors that we'd be after Thabeet if we moved Perk (although Evans was another guy Danny apparently liked.)
