I'm sitting on the fence. It all depends on KG if he doesn't figure it out and come back to something close to pre injury form we're done. Unless KG rediscovers his inner top 5-10 player, Yes the window is closed. I was feeling good until this recent injury which seems to be pretty serious. I definitely feel what Brick is saying. Unless your wearing the green tinted glasses it's hard to say that the window is still open.
Again, if it is green tinted glasses to say that the window is still opened, who are the real contenders?
The cavs, who'll need Lebron to play out of his mind because the rest of their front court sucks?
The magic, who are 2-6 over the last 8?
The lakers, who are having to play an ailing Kobe 39 minutes a game?
Relying on the fact that the others suck, too, just to make myself feel better for my own sucking is not at all a good tactic...
Last I checked, to win a championship you don't have to be great, you just have to suck less than everyone else.
It seems to me that sucking slightly less than the other teams is a great tactic.
So let me ask this again: if the celtics' window is closed, which team's window isn't?
it might be a great tactic when you don't have enough talent in your team or when there are other issues, like injuries(and that's the only excuse we have)!!
but when you have by far the best starting 5 in the league, that's a bad tactic which applies to lazy people without goals!
the cavs' window is more than open if lebron stays...shaq was a desperation move they made because they just couldn't get over their elimination by the magic!
generally, the team who will sign lebron this summer is automatically a big favorite for the next few years... he's young and with the right moves, they can build a championship team around him!
If the lazy people without goals are just slightly better than everyone else they will still be champions.
As I said in my last post: the championship window being open doesn't mean that we are overwhelming favorites. Just that we have a decent chance of winning a championship.
And as bad as we've been, there is simply no one out there that is much better than us. And I would say missing KG for 9 games, Pierce for 5, Sheed for 3, Rondo for 1 and Daniels for 19 so far are more than just "excuses."
So, if our window is closed and we don't have a decent shot at winning the championship, which are the teams that are so much better than us? Kobe might be younger than KG, but he has played more minutes in his career, and as we all know a bad back doesn't go away on its own.
The cavs window might be open wider if Lebron stays, but the topic here is not who has the longest window, but whether the celtics' window is closed.
And unless someone can come up with a team that is unequivocally better than the celtics, the answer is no, our window is definitely, 100% not closed.
And I wouldn't even go as far back as 68-69 to cite an example, but 94-95 with the 47-35 rockets.
